Harold H. Thompson is an anarchist prisoner serving life plus sentences in Tennessee, USA after a series of farcical trials. Harold is well known for his work as a 'jailhouse lawyer' and copes with prison by fighting for his fellow prisoner in the courts for some semblance of real justice. "I am an anti-authoritarian, anti-racist, anti-sexist, anarchist revolutionary of proud Irish heritage. I am also a vegetarian and strongly support the animal liberation movement. I stand for civil/human rights and will not break, bend nor be intimidated. I stand in solidarity with all people struggling against oppression but most particularly with my brothers and sisters in the anarchist movement". ... read full story / add a comment

Mayo, and then announced that her hunger strike had come to an end. ... read full story / add a comment

Now that today's expressions of solidarity for Maura in Galway have been serendiptously overtaken by Shell's announcement that "the Solitaire will leave Killybegs today for a UK Port where deep water berthing facilities are available," at the risk of wrongly second guessing her, a sweet and honourable ending to her hunger strike is, surely, in the offing.? ... read full story / add a comment

Today a group of climate activists disrupted the AGM of Ryanair at the Radisson Hotel, Dublin Airport. Campaigners dropped a banner from the hotel with a subvertised Ryanair logo reading ' LYINAIR.CON'. One campaigner confronted a dumb-struck Michael O'Leary at the podium, while other eco-clowns juggled outside. The PLANE MAD campaigners are campaigning for responsible aviation. By pioneering the cheap flights model Ryanair have been responsible for a significant proportion of the massive growth in the aviation industry. Aviation is currently the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases. While governments and individuals are gearing up to tackle their carbon emissions it is necessary to accept the reality that flying is the most polluting form of transport. Plane Mad is an Irish campaigning group taking action against the unsustainable nature of aviation in Ireland. To find out more visit www.planemad.org ... read full story / add a comment

Shell to Sea paid a visit to Shell’s offices in Belmullet this afternoon and draped a banner from the roof saying ‘Solitaire Out Now’, and protested outside the office until after the workers inside went home. Two people were arrested just after they came down from the roof. Maura Harrington’s hunger strike continued into its ninth day today. Her strike will end when Shell’s pipe-laying ship the Solitaire leaves Irish territorial waters, or she will die. ... read full story / add a comment

Tháinig ar a laghad 50 duine chuig léirsiú Shell chun Sáile i mBaile Andarsain i mBéal Feirste tráthnóna inniu, ag tacú le Maura Harrington agus ag éileamh go gcuirtear an Solitaire thar sáile. Níorbh fhada gur chuir bainisteoir an staisiúin Shell scairt ar na póilíní, ach lean na gníomhaígh leis an agóid, ag scaipeadh billeogaí faoi Maura ags an cás i Maigh Eo faoi láthair. Mar is gnáth, fuair na gníomhaígh tacaíocht mhór ón phobal, tiománaithe ag buladh a mbonnán agus coisithe ag tabhairt a mbeannacht leis an fheachtas. Several prominent politicians today called for Shell to immediately make explicit what the intent of the pipe laying ship Solitiare is. Given that Maura Harrington is entering her 10th day of hunger strike, and there are various rumours going around about the sea worthiness of the pipelaying vessel, Tony Gregory TD, Sen. David Norris, Joe Higgins, Patricia McKenna, Andy Storey (Afri) and the filmmaker Ken Loach all signed up to the joint statement calling for the Multinational Shell to give an unequivocal annoucement , rather than playing with the life of local campaigner Ms Harrington ... read full story / add a comment

A large crowd assembled at 6pm today to show solidarity for Maura Harrington and the Shell to Sea cause and outrage at the continuing situation in North West Mayo. A Shell to Sea activist was accosted and arrested for refusing to give his name by two special brnachers after the vigil as he was walking down the street. Intimidation of this kind is unfortunately to be expected as the state uses last nights bomb threat to increase the pressure on the S2S activists and supporters. The vigil continues today at 6pm and there will be a 24 hour fast and film screening beginning 6pm Friday should Mauras action be ongoing at that stage. ... read full story / add a comment

As Maura Harrington's hunger strike entered its second week today, a delegation of Shell to Sea kayakers travelled yet again to Killybegs, Co. Donegal, to establish contact with Shell's pipe-laying ship the Solitaire. The purpose of the mission was to make contact with the Solitaire's bridge, and to ascertain its intentions regarding its departure from Irish waters. However, the Shell to Sea delegation did not expect the Solitaire to run away from them, which is what it did, thereby refusing all contact with Shell to Sea. Maura Harrington's hunger strike will end when the Solitaire leaves Irish territorial waters, or else she will die. ... read full story / add a comment

Maura Harrington's hunger strike against the continuing presence of the pipe-laying ship the Solitaire in Irish waters continued into its seventh day today. In honour of her retirement today on, a special celebration was held in the primary school in Inver, where she had worked as a schoolteacher for over 30 years and as a principal for nearly 10. The protective vigil around her continues tonight, as she continues her hunger strike outside the gates of Shell's Glengad compound. As news of solidarity actions around Ireland and Europe reaches Erris, the community have taken heart from this support and are ever-more resolved to defend their beleaguered community. Also included in this posting are a selection of photos illustrating what may be about to be lost should Shell and the state get their corrupt violent way. I composed it in response to a statement made by Maura in her letter to the captain of the Solitaire. ... read full story / add a comment
