Socialist Party members Denis Keane and Michael O'Brien have been found in contempt of Court for illegally picketing City Jet. While it may have been necessary to purge the contempt through an apology these Trotskyites crawled and ended up with very brown tongues. Keane said he "had no intention of breaching the court order" he apologised to the court and said he "would not attend a protest at Dublin Airport in the future". (Cheerio City Jet strikers, you were good for a few Socialist Voice pictures.) In true Revolutionary style O'Brien accepted he "should have made more inquiries about the terms of the Court order". UCD students watch out! These guys will lead you up the garden path. If theres any trouble they will apologise to the College authorities and leave ordinary students to hang out to dry. ... read full story / add a comment

This year, for the first time ever, Christmas will not be celebrated in Bethlehem. The 35% Christian Palestinian population of Bethlehem has announced that they will not be putting up a christmas tree or celebrating in any form in Manger square this year due to the ongoing curfews, detentions and killings by the Israeli forces. The have said that even if they did want to put up decorations there wouldn't be time to do that in the small time that the curfew would be lifted. They need to use that time to buy food and visit doctors etc. There will be a midnight mass on Christmas Eve though. ... read full story / add a comment

I welcome the steps taken by the Irish Government to bring closure on past conflict. My transfer and those of my comrades to Castlerea is an act of good faith by the authorities. I welcome it as a sign of acceptance by those authorities not only of the integrity of the INLA cease-fire but of the determination of republican socialist-prisoners and ex-prisoners to make a positive and progressive contribution to Irish Society ... read full story / add a comment

"Fare Thee Ill, Kissinger Posted on December 13, 2002 @ 7:22PM Henry Kissinger has resigned from his post as the head of the 9/11 investigation commission. The problem, however, was not his shoddy track record of human rights violations, abuse of power, or clandestine warfare. He resigned because of his consulting firm. . Kissinger had been under pressure from families of 9/11 victims to reveal his client list to avoid any potential conflicts of interest. In his letter to Bush, he said, "It is clear that, although specific potential conflicts can be resolved in this manner, the controversy would quickly move to the consulting firm I have built and own. I have, therefore, concluded that I cannot accept the responsibility you proposed." The good news: Henry's history. Bad news: Poindexter and Abrams are still around " from www.alternet.org ... read full story / add a comment
