European gas prices recently went above ?58 per megawatt hour ? the equivalent of $100 per barrel of oil. This is "absolutely destructive for energy-intensive manufacturing", in the words of one industry analyst.

Any parent can currently withdraw their child from school if they're unhappy. Labour's Schools Bill ends that right for many, giving local authorities a veto. That's why all parents should protest against this state power grab.

Palestinian Sources close to the leftist factions said that talks among these factions to form a unified bloc to run in the upcoming Parliament election slated for July 17 are in an advanced stage.

The sources added that the latest meeting was held in Ramallah where 6 left wing factions were present. Observers described the meeting as positive and the possibility to form the bloc is high.

The factions agreed on a joint program and mechanism, for the elections.

The left in Palestine are worried that the competition between Fatah and Hamas will dominate the elections; therefore they want to try to present a third option for voters.

The factions are also supported by some independent democratic figures in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Fatah is striving to delay the elections, fearing that Hamas will win most of the parliament seats. Hamas insists that the elections must take place in its scheduled date. ... read full story / add a comment

George Galloway’s appearance at US Senate hearing into the Oil for Food scandal was nothing less than a tour de force, during which he successfully repudiated unsubstantiated allegations made against him by the pro-war committee, and in which he also indicted the US government for warcrimes. I've just been released from county jail in Iowa for civil disobedience against the war on Iraq. I live in a CW community in Des Moines with homeless folks. Most of my nonviolent resistance which has lead to years in jail has been at Stracom/Omaha. Below is 1)a history of Stratcom & 2) nonviolent resistance to it.

While in Dublin I'm hoping to meet with peace activists. Hope you can come to Wenesday's public meeting (Teachers Club 7.30pm), Thursday refelction (11 Talbot St.) or the Thursday night party. ... read full story / add a comment

Last Summer, on the 16th June 2004 was was the 100th anniversary of Ulysses, James joyces more revered work. As official celebration kicked off on O Connell st, activists working within the Dublin grassroots network took part in a some political street theatre of their own.

Deciding to highlight the abuses of state terrorism being carried out by the occupying forces of Iraq and Afganistan, that continue to this day, the activists 'hooded' up the statue of Joyce on Talbot st., dressed up in the universally identifiable clours of those held illegally in Guantánamo Bay. ... read full story / add a comment

Re: Possible arrival of war criminal at Shannon airport this afternoon

Dear Sgt O'Sullivan

I have received information that US President George W Bush may be arriving
at Shannon airport this afternoon. For the purpose of identification to help
you with your enquiries he is likely to be travelling in a Boeing 767
aircraft normally known as Air-force One.

On my own behalf and on behalf of the Irish Peace and Neutrality Alliance, I
formally ask you to arrest Mr George W Bush as soon as he lands at Shannon
so as to prevent his escape. As you are aware, Ireland, as a signatory to
the agreements setting up the International Criminal Court, is obliged to
