Many had travelled overseas to take part in the Bloomsday celebration, an initially where not so keen to see the statue defaced. however when activist spoke many of the crowd, and explained our motivations, the attitude of those concerned changed. Amongst those gathered were shoppers tourists and folks just hanging out in the fine summers evening.
These wars still continue today..nothing much has changed. The shallow nature of our democracy was and is shown but the continued use of Shannon Airport by the US armed forces. The Irish state is not only complicit is this way, but actively tries to make criminals out of those who put their money where there mouths is, exemplified by the states prosecution of Mary Kelly and attempted prosecution of the 5 Pitstop Ploughshares, who recently had their case halted because of 'percieved' bias on behalf of the Judge.
joyce's quote
some people looking on at the action
"what going on round this side, margaret??"
Cheers.
Utterly daft. Where's the Bloomsday/Joyce connection? What's the point in mis-using quotes entirely out of context? Lordy, lord if you're going to mobilise into "action", have some intelligience about it.
the action took place on Bloomsdays, and the action was the symbolic hooding that took place was upon a statue of joyce. Most people on the street got what we were illustrating, which was the degradation and torture of humans, under the guise of a war on terror.
Sure, it isn't as complicated as some of joyces works, but there is no need to attempt to simultaniously intellectualise and then disparage an action based upon human solidarity, which was creative and engaged the public.
then again most critics prefer the sound of their own words. saves them the pain of trying something themselves.
BTW how are the quotes out of context...

Egypt confirms 'rendition' of terror suspects
http://www.isn.ethz.ch/news/sw/details.cfm?ID=11297
ISN SECURITY WATCH (17/05/05) - Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif said on
Sunday that the US had sent as many as 70 terror suspects to his country for
interrogation since the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US.
In the first official acknowledgement by any country that it was being sent
terror suspects by the US, Nazif told NBS news on Sunday that “I don’t know the
exact number, but I know that people have been sent [to Egypt]” in line with a
practice known as “rendition”.
”The numbers vary - there have been over 60 or 70,” he said.
Nazif’s statement comes amid increasing reports that Egyptian officials have
tortured suspected Islamic extremists extradited to their country by Western
governments, including the US.
Itd be good to stick them up, bring back memories for those who were around and also would greatly increase the chance of em being around in years to come as a reference.
Good man Finbar what are you at these days. Its been a while since we talked. Get in touch if you can, where are you working?

Paddy Kavanagh predicted this is how the Irish gobshitery would appreciate joyce in years to come. Ah sure aren't we great. Diddly-i Diddly-i whack fol de daddy-o.
He also predicted that some Irish 'Consciences' would still be ready to shatter Ireland's self-delusion with 'muck and anger' . Just like Joyce did.
'History is a nightmare from which i am trying to awake' is right.
