oh yeah, OUR STREETS.
I was prostesting peacefully.
hes one of the twelve still held, they broke his elbow after taking him away
he didnt do shit, we were just watching the spectacle go down and he was unfortunately in the wrong place wrong time
what were you doing in front of the water cannon? you decided to be there, you were asked to move back...no sympathy whatsoever for anyone who was up in the front lines what did ye expect?
got hit by a water cannon in the side of the head, and i felt like i was deaf in one ear for the last few days. so i went to the doc today and it turns out i have a hole in my ear drum, and its become infected!
thaaaaank yooooou "esteemed member of the garda siochana" [read: pig] on an ego trip!
James, you should look into Rwanda a bit. It was the US and France that obstructed the UN from doing anything -the US insisted on reducing the number of peacekeepers to a few hundred, then while hundreds of thousands were being slaughtered they spent weeks haggling over the price the UN would pay them for borrowing American transport vehicles. And France were secretly helping the people most responsible for the genocide!
If the EU get an army they will only use it for their own ends, not for "humanitarian" actions. If they are so concerned about humanitarianism, then why are they lending support to murderous dictators in Africa? Because the European states are greedy and power hungry, that's why, and if they get an EU army they will use it to further their own interests.
If you are concerned about Liberia, etc, then you should want to strengthen and reform the UN, not hand over military might to another greedy superpower.
James, the reason why dublin bus "sucks" as you put it is because the government and its management are deliberately starving it of funds and are only interested in breaking it up and selling off the juicy bits, not in making it work. Privatisation is always justified by the right wing under the pretence that it brings "competition". (if you cast your mind back this was said about eircom as well). All that happens is that the smaller companies are bought out by the larger multinationals. A public monopoly with profits going into the public purse is turned into a private monopoly so a few rich shareholders can get richer at the price of the ROBBERY of the taxpayer.
As for your point about a military EU superpower making the world a safer place... When capitalist superblocks get into competition and start to arm themselves to the teeth so they can grab markets faster than their competitors, this actually makes the world a more dangerous place. Surely the two world wars of the previous century have shown that.
In the days following the Madrid terrorist atrocity the EU and European business leaders got together for the annual European Business Summitt where, surprise, surprise a major topic was opportunities for money-making from the armaments and related "security" industries.
> Soon enough public services will be in the hand of private corporations whose only goal is profit and who put the needs of citizens a poor second.
When I think of eircom, I agree with this. A company with no incentive to improve their service because of a monopoly position quite simply never will. It should never of been privatised in the first place.
When I think of iarnoid eireann or dublin bus, I find it a lot harder to agree. They are semi-state companies with a monopoly and they still suck!
> Oh yeah and dont forget the planned E.U army sure to bring death and destruction to many in the future should it be allowed to proceed.
Peacekeeping! Do you not agree that sending irish troops to Liberia is not a good thing? I think that relying on the UN to go into some of these places is not enough (Rwanda). In any case, the positives outweigh the negatives.
The first comment is really a predictable reaction from the apathetic majority who prefer to just mill along on their merry way as long as number one is o.k,imaginative title by the way.
I am not from D4 nor am i even from Dublin, nor am i a "mammys boy".
Their are issues worth fighting for out there and unfortunately it is the attitude above that stops anything positive from getting done.
The E.U are not just peacekeepers, some of their members are warmongerers (U.K,Italy) responsible for the deaths of thousands.
The EU maintains food mountains in order to keep supply low and prices high while millions starve in the "underdeveloped" world.
Soon enough public services will be in the hand of private corporations whose only goal is profit and who put the needs of citizens a poor second.
Oh yeah and dont forget the planned E.U army sure to bring death and destruction to many in the future should it be allowed to proceed.
You're an uninformed fool my friend and i suggest you actually go to a march like Saturdays before youre intellectually enriched enough to comment upon it.
Maybe an indication would be the increased number of sinister mountain types wandering around the place whining like the children of the night putting the fear of crucified jesus not the meek and mild sucking child into some.
here in indymedia ireland cyber land, we tried to remove the pre-98 terms "working/middle/upper-class" from the social discourse on the grounds that really there are only "formerly w/M/u-classes" about in the 1st world as it enters the second half of a century's concerted economic, social, often military, philosophical, technological and cultural war on the poorest of this planet.
Who incidently mostly carry infected blood, and don't make good food, and are much closely related to the Rastaman (our common daddy) and that really best to be avoided, RastaQueen, who you don't even dream of now.
"An Act to prevent the pernicious practice of burning bricks within the city of Dublin or the neighbourhood thererof."
- was passed in the years 1770 / 1771, and is one of the pre-Union statutes up for the chopchop this year as part of the Attorney General's long list to clean up loads of laws from 1320 to 1922 before the establishment of our peaceful, unitary and prosperous state.
We have all lived happily ever since.
another law up for the chop is one to prevent and discourage maiming, killing and being nasty to cattle 1743.
That's a century before An Gort Mhór when our legislators of the post Union period, (1801 - 1922) tidied up the aftermath by introducing such gems as "missapropriation of property" intended to stop people nicking cattle during the long hungry night.
That little gem stays on the statue books.
The 1743 law is probably Brehon inspired but it's date of crystalisation into the Law that delight of my darling Michael Mc Dowell,
and all the Judges in Judge Land I've been extending my daily wonder of High Literature to ponder in their angst and overwork is a wonder.
Why do you think, dear Michael Cattle maiming and distress and so on, was subject to lawmaking in 1743?
I possibly don't know, but I wager a small imaginary sum that had something to do with the smaller and mostly forgotten famine period at that time.
Anyway, I also think no-one ought go near Mr Bush, not even Bertie, I happen to one who believes he ought not be invited to Ireland at this time, but no-one has suggested there to be any photo-opportunities on Rockall.
And I think everyone who lights candles from An Parc Fuinn Uisce to the chapel on Cloverhil, ought be sending out
The Greatest Psychic Mind Control Weapon of them all (Hank),
"Jolly Good Vibes" & "forgiveness".
For the Lads and Ladettes of the Gardaí, I am happy to anounce that last night some spliff smokers in Girona Railway station, the 2nd biggest City of Catalonia, (the most populous region of Spain) noticed strange behaviour, and due to the "happy communal solidarity and trust in symbols of authority perhaps" decided to inform the Station Chief.
He promptly phoned the local police and a group of people were arrested for in "street speak" doing a full reconaisance of the Station.
They are curently being questioned in relation to a perceived threat of terrorist attack in the aftermath of M11 which killed 200 people in Madrid. {This was the first succesful terrorist attack attributed to an islamic fundemantalist organisation in Europe).
I shall it seems go on making myself clear,
interesting, and of course begging for donations to help clear the rent and bills.
You know the usuals,
"basics of life stuff".
I am not suggesting that there are any laws on the statute books between 1324 and 1922 that ought to stay, becuase as everyone knows I am not legally minded and have no qualitifications other than a Whiskey tasting certificate I forged during the beginning of Prionsais de Rossa's great work for FAS schemes in the early 90s.
But perhaps when the legal team and first aid team and media Corp are done their MayDay thing, they could glance over the list at http://www.irlgov.ie/AG/SLRU/BetterRegSLRUprogrammeApril2004.htm
Nor am I suggesting to put pressure on the Judges of JudgeLand, or my darling Michael Mc Dowell Minister for Justice, (who let's face it could with a flourish of the pen and squelch of the blotter, stop me coming home, or maybe bring me home, on a Lear Jet or something).
Nor am I suggesting that the Lads and Ladettes of the Garda Siochana, who I hope are going to be given some space and time (preferably paid) to "cool their heads" and "put them in a different frame of mind",
should when they return go arresting everyone with a disposable camera at the railway stations of Ireland, but they could ponder, the wisdom, of the healthy realtionship between spliff smokers who blatently broke both Bye Laws and High Laws, and the Station Chief, and of course the local lads and ladettes.
Maybe if the local freakies had done a frontal assault without really knowing what they wer edoing on the local lads and ladettes annexe it would have been a different story, but Girona is very special. Why even Shakespeare thought so, and long before shakeyDATspeare (me) he wrote an excellent work for a companie of actors set in Girona.
a place of gentlemen.
correct me if I'm wrong.
when I go, I go ryanair.
by my own accord, Mick. (can I call you Mick now, or would that be going to far to soon?)

The Dublin Grassroots Network Medical Working Group are calling to people who were injured by the Gardaí or by the Garda water cannon to report their injuries, in order to refute media and Garda claims that the reported numbers of demonstrators injured on Saturday 1st May is exaggerated.
The media have been accusing the Dublin Grassroots Network and the Medical Working Group of lying about, and exaggerating the numbers of people injured and the injuries sustained, by the riot cops and water cannon at the 'Farmleigh' demonstration on Saturday 1st May.
As a member of the medical team I can say that I treated a number of people for serious injuries. Through speaking to the other volunteers in the medical team, I can definitely report that there are no exaggerated claims being made about the number of demonstrators injured on Saturday evening; if anything, the extent of the number of people injured is not yet known.
This is why we need to collect this data - to prove that we are not exaggerating or lying and disprove Gardaí claims that no demonstrators were injured.
If you were injured please document your injuries -
take a photograph of the injury/injuries,
write an account of what exactly happened, noting the Garda number if you managed to take it down,
note the names of anybody who might have witnssed you being injured,
ask any witnesses to write an account of what they saw,
if you visited a doctor/hospital afterwards as a result of the injury, keep any records you were given, including prescriptions, names of doctors you saw etc.
Please ring or e-mail me (anonymously if you wish) and tell me what injuries you sustained or witnessed.
You can contact me if you have any questions about this also.
All reports are in the strictest confidence.
Contact me at: 086 164 0538
Thank you,
Clare Lee
Dublin Grassroots Medical Working Group.
this story is old hat
move on, no-one cares
we have missed the boat by at least 72hours
prepare for the visit of the evil one.
I almost got hit by a rock taken from a front garden on the Navan Road, comrade beside me wasn't as lucky, he got hit on the side of the head and suffered significant bloodloss. Are we counting this as friendly fire?
If this is what will happen at the Bush visit, why would I want to bring my family?
