Cork S2S activists and supporters will be travelling to Mayo this Friday to take part in the National Day of Protest called by the community campaign in Erris. Once again, Shell to Sea campaigners and supporters will be showing solidarity with and lending their numbers to the ongoing protest by the local community. For seven years now concerned local citizens have opposed the unsafe and unprecedented Corrib Gas project, and they have had the broad support of the community for most of this time. Members of the IWU have been angered at the difficulties imposed on workers seeking PPS numbers by the Department of Social & Family Affairs. ‘This situation has only come to light when a Polish worker sought a PPS number within two days of arriving in Donegal to take up a job - the worker attempted to register for the PPS number at the local Social Welfare office but was told it would be necessary to travel to Letterkenny – a distance of more than 50 miles – which is now the only office issuing new numbers.’ ... read full story / add a comment
