On Saturday, the 13th of May 2006, the day of the Full Moon of Beltine, the Opus Dei Lismullin Institute charged E50 to hear an all day talk about Opus Dei's plans for our Celtic Heritage. Opus Dei's Lismullin Institute in the high valley of the Royal City of Celtic Tara (supported by the state funded Heritage Council) managed to keep everyone silent about the 'problem'. No one was allowed to mention the 'M' word (M3 dual toll road motorway) as there was a dictate (in their promotion) that - "The cut off at 2000 AD is chosen to exclude discussion of the proposed route of the M3 Motorway and to leave more time for learning about the history and traditions associated with the Valley". Those who force this toll road have an agenda that restricts free speech. ... read full story / add a comment

Edain Echraidhe is her Gaelic name; her home is the high valley between the hills of Tara and Skryne in the Royal City of Celtic Ireland. This high valley holds a sacred stream called the Gabhra (pronounced gow-ra), which means the white mare. The Gabhra Valley was free range for the White Mare of our Celtic ancestors who came from northern Spain. In Cymru (Wales), she is called Rhiannon, and the Celts of Gaul (France) called her Epona and in a chalk hill in Oxford (England) many people today say that the giant image of the Uffington Horse is a Celtic Horse Goddess. ... read full story / add a comment

The European Commission has lodged proceedings against Ireland with the European Court of Justice for its failure to assess and control unauthorised quarrying and similar activities. The proceedings follow a Letter of Formal Notice and a Reasoned Opinion sent by the Commission to Ireland over the past three years. The BBC’s Countryfile programme tomorrow is highlighting the importance of maintaining limestone pavement as a unique natural habitat. Speaking in an interview from the Burren on the programme, Friends of the Irish Environment’s Tony Lowes explained that ‘The European Commission has just entered a case against Ireland in the European Court of Justice for its failure to control quarrying. The developers are actually quarrying and then looking for permission and of course this is the wrong way, you're supposed to assess your impact before you start." ... read full story / add a comment

éirígí, the newly formed Socialist Republican campaigns group, launched it’s ‘Reclaim the Republic/Athshealbhaígí an Phoblacht’ campaign over the course of last weekend. The campaign aims to bring the message of 1916 to the people and trigger a debate about the nature of modern day Ireland and how it compares to the Ireland envisioned in the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. In attempting to make this a reality, éirígí has begun to distribute thousands of full colour poster-size copies of the Proclamation to the citizens of Dublin on a not for profit basis. Over the course of the weekend éirígí activists distributed hundreds of copies of the Proclamation in various location across the city, including, Tallaght, Crumlin, Walkinstown, Drumcondra, Ballybough and the City Centre. éirígí activists will continue to distribute these posters over the coming weeks and months. Any donations received will be used to cover the cost of printing additional posters for further distribution. In this way éirígí hopes to ensure that the Proclamation will hang with pride in homes, workplaces and schools across the city. ... read full story / add a comment

The Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS) has today called on the Department of Agriculture to impound the animals currently traveling with Circus Vegas, the Courtney owned outfit which has hit the headlines again following an incident last night on the M50. It is believed that the beast wagon carrying the elephants had a blowout as the circus was in transit between Wicklow and Stepaside. This same beast wagon, again carrying the show’s two elephants, was involved in a fatal accident on the Tuam Road in Galway in April when a mother and her daughter were killed when the wagon became detached from the cabin. ... read full story / add a comment

A system of sequenced closing times for licensed premises in Ireland is long overdue and is respected worldwide as a concept, which facilitates the steady and orderly flow of people leaving licensed establishments throughout the night.
