As many of you will know, the Irish government is drafting new legislation for the upcoming Irish animal welfare bill and this will be a critical and crucial time for animals in Ireland. We have the opportunity to stop many heartbreaking acts of cruelty to animals, from homeless abandoned and abused dogs and cats seeking shelter on the cold wet streets to animals that are chained and confined in the circus, to greyhounds suffering and dieing in the Irish racing industry, barbaric bloodsports, cruel fur farming, painful and unscientific animal experiments and much more the list is endless and much goes unnoticed, but we must not allow this to happen, we intend to rip the lid off cruelty to animals in Ireland make it widely known that animals are not ours to use or exploit in anyway, shape or form. ... read full story / add a comment

Fox hunters get toasted as breakfast seminar loses keynote speaker and gets infiltrated.

A seminar organised by the Hunting Association of Ireland to address the ‘vegan agenda/animal rights threat’ has been described as ‘farcical and ill-informed’ by the Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR), one of the leading animal rights groups in Ireland.

The organiser of the event Mr Gavin Duffy was left with a large dose of egg on his face when Padraig Walsh, President of the IFA, who was billed as a keynote speaker at the event, vehemently distanced himself from the agenda of the Hunting Association of Ireland.

Sinn Féin Environment and Natural Resources Spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has severely criticised a decision by the Department of the Environment to grant planning permission without approval from An Bord Pleanála to Shell E&P Limited for a key section of the Corrib onshore pipeline at Glengad in County Mayo.

Planning permission was granted via the controversial Strategic Infrastructure Act.

The Belfast Pride Festival begins this Saturday 26 July, lasting a week and culminating with a huge march through Belfast City Centre on Saturday 2 August, assembling at Customs House Square @ 12noon.

The march attracted record numbers last year with over 6500 in attendance, each participant supporting the rights of the local gay community and the core premises of the international gay pride movement.

Other highlights of the festival include the Amnesty International lecture by human rights and gay rights activist Peter Thatchell, and a ‘Pride Talks Back’. All events and further information can be viewed at http://www.belfastpride.com/.

Tara Campaigners worldwide are supporting a petition to the Irish Government calling on them to re-inter the remains of individuals whose graves have been desecrated by the ongoing construction of the M3 Motorway in the Gabhra Valley near the historic Hill of Tara in Co. EPACE are a private limited company set up to police the R.E.A... (Registered Employment Agreement) That is in force in the electrical contracting industry. On Thursday July 29th the HSE were presented with 5,000 signatures on petitions demanding the maintaining of A&E services in Ennis, Nenagh and St.John’s Hospitals. The Socialist Party, who collected the petitions, claim that this is only the beginning and that an active campaign must be built. Socialist Party spokesperson, Cian Prendiville said: “The HSE are unlikely to give up on their agenda of centralisation and cutbacks without a fight. Petitions can be a first step, but what is needed is for people to come along to the upcoming health forum on July 29th and use it as a launching pad for a local action group.” ... read full story / add a comment
