Foreign Secretary David Lammy set out "the future of the U.K.'s foreign policy" this week. It's an abysmal vision, says Dr. David McGrogan, but it gives hope that the edifice of 'progressive realism' will soon collapse.

Bernadette Devlin and fight to free Derry - not wanted by Druids' Glen golf management

THE heroes of the 1916 Rising have been turfed out of one of the country's most prestigious golf clubs. While these bastions of the sporting elite can be notoriously picky about who they do and do not allow to enter, eyebrows have been raised after the management of Druids Glen Golf Resort in Co Wicklow decided to evict the seven signatories of the 1916 proclamation. Their portraits have graced the stairs of the clubhouse, Woodstock House, since it opened in 1995. However, they no longer suit the "ambience" and will be put up for auction later this month. ... read full story / add a comment

A 33 year old man was sentenced to seven days in jail for wearing the T-shirt with the words "Never mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" at a court in Bray on Friday July, 16, 2006. The judge Murrough Connellan refused an attempt by the man to purge his "contempt" after his partner Lorraine Fitzpatrick purchased a plain blue T-shirt. The judge said he had not furnished "good reason" for wearing the garment. ... read full story / add a comment
Cllr. John Brady, Sean Crowe TD and Marie Gavaghan
wicklow / anti-capitalism Friday May 26, 2006 - 12:11 by Mick Hall   image 1 image
Concerns have been raised over the transparency of one of Ireland’s biggest proposed developments.

The €2 billion (£1.4 billion) plan by the Pizarro Development Consortium to build a high-density development on the 62-acre site on Bray town golf course in Co Wicklow was passed by Bray Town Council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council earlier this month.

Local residents have strongly objected to the plan, concerned it will cause widespread flooding in the Little Bray part of town, affecting more than 700 homes. The residents are holding a public meeting next Monday to discuss a campaign to have the high-density build of shops, offices and residential homes moved away from the River Dargle flood plain and relocated to higher ground on the site.
