This new definition largely hinges on ‘civilian’ attacks. Analysts would view this as a purely ideological manoeuvre. The definition of “civilian” is no longer clear. ... read full story / add a comment

Whole countries opposed it, its proponents couldn't explain it, and its own parliament called for it to be completely reconsidered. Twice. Therefore, the European Council decided to approve it. Barring an exceptional parliamentary earthquake, the Computer Implemented Inventions Directive will be rubber-stamped by the European Parliament and will in time become law across the Union. It seems Bill Gates got more than a regal tap on the shoulder when he was visiting last week: if these are the punishments for heading a company convicted in Europe and America for anti-trade monopoly abuse, let us hope he is never rewarded. ... read full story / add a comment

The news that a 16 year old girl has succeeded in a case she started at the age of 14 against her school for limiting her interpretation of Islamic dress, has won at the British courts represented by no less a QC than Mrs Cherie Blair, is being hailed by the party who have done more to stoke islamaphobia than any other, as a victory for civil rights.

This young girl has said she has given "hope to muslim women". Meanwhile, her QC's husband continues to push un-neccesary legislation which flagrantly abuses the ancient liberties at the heart of the British legal system. ... read full story / add a comment
