A principal failure if not the major failure of the U.S. administration is its failure to comprehend the nature of post-modern reality, especially post-modern warfare. The U.S. war ‘machine’ is an antiquated beast run by the mentally impaired. Dangerous and angry old men (past failures) do not good leaders/advisers make! ... read full story / add a comment

The answer is blowing the Constitution and Bill of Rights out the window – the Triads, Mafia, Latino, Cuban groups and various South American drug cartels all have something to learn from Cheney and Bush; in fact, they look positively tame in comparison. When confronted with accusations (and proof) of murder, torture, theft/plunder, illegal surveillance, etc, on levels traditional organised crime could only dream of, what is the recourse of neo-cons? Legislate and change the Law (it’s an ass anyway). Simply legalise activities that were once considered crimes and criminalise those who oppose or disagree! There’s nothing that compares to stealing government – computerised voting, subterfuge, lies, fabricated terrorist threats and THE POWER TO LEGISLATE – it’s just too damn easy! ... read full story / add a comment

In a feature by student journalist Susan Cahill, the UCD based College Tribune carried an interesting piece on the rise of alternative media. The article focussed its eye mainly on the main Irish chain in this emerging phenomenon by interviewing a member of the Irish Irish Indymedia Internet Collective, Robbie Sinnott. Left wing UCD students have proven particularly adepth at using adept at using Indymedia to cover their activities over the years, this article will hopefully lead to some more use of the site down in the LG's where it is more common to see tortuous hours spent poring over social networking sites like Bebo. ... read full story / add a comment

This summer, the German federal administrative court threw out the charge of insubordination against a major in the German army. He had refused to obey an order which, he believed, would implicate him in the invasion of Iraq. The judges determined that the UN charter permits a state to go to war in only two circumstances: in self-defence, and when it has been authorised to do so by the UN security council. The states attacking Iraq, they ruled, had no such licence. Resolution 1441, which was used by the British and US governments to justify the invasion, contained no authorisation. The war could be considered an act of aggression. ... read full story / add a comment

Apparantly ten foot high cannabis plants planted close to together for strictly medicinal export purposes are
difficult to burn.

Not even White phosophorus (the soldier's friend) will clear a field of grass. This is bad news for Canadian troops attached to NATO in Afghanistan as they must resort to burning the areas with diesel. A very smelly & nauseating noxioum ambience resulting.

An amazing poll in today's (Oct 15 2006) Sunday Tribune shows that the public are very supportive of the Bertie Ahern even though he received over 60,000 euro from businessmen in the 1990s -- while at the same time a majority believe the planning tribunal's reputation is damaged after the details of the taoiseach's loan and gift emerged!!

Two chartered engineers have asked Marine Minister Noel Dempsey to commission a report on the “optimum location” for the Corrib gas terminal to try to break the deadlock over the E900 million project.

Former Bord Gais official Leo Corcoran and Brian Coyle in Galway have also recommended that Shell should suspend any work at Bellanaboy while a study like this is undertaken. The proposal came as a reaction to the endorsement of the Advantica safety review of the onshore pipeline by Engineers Ireland.

As well as criticising Engineers Ireland’s analysis, Mr Corcoran says that Advantica’s terms of reference were too limited.

In their report Mr Corcoran and Mr Coyle say the key issue is the location of the gas processing terminal 9km inland at Bellanaboy. It involves running a pipeline through special areas of conservation and special protection areas. ... read full story / add a comment

A recent news item on NPR this week -- legal action against the automotive industry in the USA for its complicity in global warming -- has let the ‘bull’ out of the bag; the ‘cat’ has bolted; the unmentionable has finally been plainly stated! Nothing occurs in a vacuum and climate change is no exception. Liable groups/parties/corporations continue to lobby governments and manipulate public opinion in their efforts to minimise any litigation arising from their complicity in poisoning our planet. Present reality dictates that the future tenability of numerous species, including humans is under threat; nevertheless, profits and economic factors remain the primary consideration for leaders of industry and governments. [This criminally perverse view will ironically prove to be the most expensive error of judgement in human history.] ... read full story / add a comment
