Usk 'Superdump' protest , An Bord Pleanála Offices, Dublin , Friday April 11 , 2008.

"RESIDENTS of the Usk area, just outside Kilcullen, are continuing their campaign against the siting of a so-called superdump in their area. The proposal by Greenstar was originally turned down by Kildare Co Council because it contravened the county plan but, following an An Bord Plean·la hearing, the board over-turned that decision and gave permission for the landfill project to go ahead. This was despite the fact that, after a hearing lasting four and a half days, the An Bord Pleanála inspector actually recommended against the siting of the dump at Usk...."

The British National Party is urging its members to drop anti-semitism in favour of Islamophobia in order to win votes ahead of May’s assembly elections in London . Its leader ,Nick Griffin ,has written in favour of “adopting an 'Islamophobic' position that appeals to large numbers of ordinary people”. Targeting Zionist voters and former supporters of the ,now largely defunct , UK Independence Party , the BNP expects to pick up the necessary votes to win at least one seat in the election . One of its councillor , Pat Richardson , is quoted in today’s Guardian saying :
"I'm in the BNP because no one else speaks out against the Islamification of our country."

Here is a statement from the Iraq Freedom Congress on the fifth anniversary of the imperialist occupation of Iraq. The IFC wants to expel the US and its allied forces and dissolve all political, economic, military and paramilitary institutions set up by the US. It also wants to dissolve and disarm all armed and paramilitary groups linked to Islamic forces and lawless groups and confiscate all their weapons, resources and funds. The IFC stands for a Secular Democratic Iraq.

The 9th of April marks the fifth anniversary of the occupation. It is the anniversary of the genocide in which more than one million lives were lost and 4 million others were made homeless inside and ouside of Iraq. It is the anniversary of the destruction of everything that relates to humanity.

You have a few minutes left to enjoy this year's international day of the Romani nation or the Roma.

They're not Romanians.

There are approximately 15 million people of the ethnic group worldwide, and surprising and no doubt shocking as it may seem, they are often not made as welcome as they undoubtedly are in Ireland.

its funny to have a headline on the newswire with Mc Dowell's Name on it, but current
Department of Justice head Mr Brian Lenihan TD failed to separate himself adequately
from the racist policy of his former government cohort ;and has garnered international

in fact its only an Immigration Bill because Mr Mc Dowell was forced to implement
International protection treaties on October 10th 2006. To date only one woman has

Racists desecrated 148 graves in the Muslim section of a military cemetery in Lille France, last Sunday daubing anti-Islamic graffiti and swastikas on graves , and hanging a pig's head on one of the headstones. The widely condemned hate crime comes at a time of tension for Muslim communities throughout Europe , occurring in the same week that Deniz Ozgur Uzun ,a 17-year-old Muslim high school student , was beaten to death by Islamophobes in Copenhagen . ... read full story / add a comment

President Sarkozy who in asking for the release of Ms Ingrid Betancourt from captivity
made a remark that shows his incredible lack of diplomacy and was probably why his
spouse led the march for her release in Paris today. He said that if she dies then FARC
will be 'responsible for the death of a woman'. Many government leaders are so responsible,
but to use the media to allow such a statement travel like a virus through our world
was badly judged and dangerous. Ms Betancourt has endured six years of separation from
her mother and her children and is unwell, being on hunger strike.

Everyone wants Ingrid freed.

that in Northern Ireland women can now buy 6,000 Euro handbags, but quality
of life had not improved at all for many. But is was not all politics, it was about
poetry and song.

The PKK were included in 2002 on the list of terrorist organisations held by the EU. It's a long list. But the decision has now been anulled by the second highest judicial bench in Europe which sits in Luxembourg.

There are complex (as always) reasons for this. Without going into it too much, & thus distracting you from reading the judgement in its entirety, I'd just mention the non-desirability of seeing a post-US occupied Iraq divided between Turkey and Iran after the former argued they were containing the PKK terrorists. ... read full story / add a comment
