‘Siberia and today’s arctic regions of Canada will be the future breadbaskets of the world.’ I read this forecast in the sixties and immediately scoffed at the prediction. The guy who made these predictions is either nuts, a charlatan, or both, I thought. The regions referred to are renowned for their permafrost, and aside from some mosses, lichens and ‘summer’ grasses, there is no way those areas could yield a viable supply of food for “the world” – that was then! ... read full story / add a comment

Threats of sanctions or a military attack on Iran are having a worrying impact on the country’s domestic politics, writes Naz Massoumi The next few months will be decisive ones for the “war on terror” as the US steps up its pressure on Iran. The Iranian nuclear issue is back on the agenda, with the passing of another United Nations (UN) deadline and another “negative report”. This external pressure has implications for politics inside Iran. ... read full story / add a comment

Philip Ruddock, Australian Attorney General, announced today that a broader range of people in the Australian community (non-Muslims) are to be targeted as “terrorists!” Ruddock also stated that persons who are not ‘terrorists’ need not be alarmed as his new wider classification should not concern ‘them’(?) Australian citizens are left to conclude that the determination of who exactly is a terrorist has become an arbitrary prerogative of the Attorney General and his gang of enforcers! Whatever happened to due process, innocent until PROVEN guilty? {God help that journalist who stepped on Ruddock’s toe, he will be the first to go!) It is not coincidental that the Bush regime also found due process to be an inconvenience. Ruddock’s logic and methods reek of neo-con methods, Guantanamo (Torture) Bay and Bush regime criminal methodologies have found expression in Oz. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Bruising some murderous scumbags ego led to an innocent man's brutal murder. The scumbags who murdered him are known as the Coca-Cola gang, (which clearly demonstrates their level of intellectual and political prowess), and the reason they killed him was because he stood up against them and their plan to subdue the entire community under their jackboot. . These are the representatives of a group who declare that they are representative of true Ireland, a 32 county republic, etc. What these peope really need is some Thorazine, in in my opinion, and perhaps some electro shock therapy. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

It is becoming more evident each day; the real target of new draconian laws and policies is not the (fabricated) terrorist ‘threat’, it is the domestic population – the enemy is you! The initial indicator (for this writer) was Section 543 of the Australian Defence Forces manual, which describes attack strategies against civilians and local populations – it should not be forgotten that Australia is a micro version and imitator of the USA and to a lesser extent the UK. ... read full story / add a comment

When the IRA split in December 1969 the dissidents set up a
Provisional Army Council until a proper IRA convention could
re-constitute the organisation. That convention took place in
September 1970 but by then the name 'Provisional' or 'Provo' had stuck
and was used as shorthand by both supporters and the media, despite
the distaste some veterans in the Movement had for that term. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Natascha Kampusch told viewers of Austrian television what it's like to be locked in a cellar for 10 years tonight. She's gone global. In fact she's top of the ratings. Natascha was all but forgotten about by Austrians a decade ago, but now reproduction and syndication rights of her interview have been traded worldwide. Each country & language giving it's own spin & peculiar title. I phoned my local television station which airs the interview tomorrow to complain at its choice of title which in English is "Natasha's confessions". ... read full story / add a comment
