The level of repression against radical activists and voices of opposition to the Islamic Republic in Iran has increased in the recent weeks. Eight labour activists from the Haft Tapeh sugarcane factory union in southern Iran have been detained by the intelligence ministry, including Ali Nejati, the president of the board of directors of the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Company Workers’ Syndicate, who was arrested on March 8. ... read full story / add a comment

Because of what is perceived to be at stake (a peace process which is widely acknowledged to have brought, rather than bringing, to an end an internecine conflict of extraordinary savagery and duration) - it is not surprising that the killing of 2 British army soldiers in an attack which also 2 civilian pizza delivery employees threatened - has moved from breaking newswires to front page position across not only European and US media but globally.
