Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Mark Zuckerberg's repudiation of Covid-era censorship is welcome. But it's not enough, say Josh Stylman and Jeffrey Tucker. Without a public reckoning they will just do it all again when a cause seems urgent enough.

Amnesty International has demanded that the Israeli army make public the full details of the findings of its probe into some of its attacks during the 22-day Gaza military offensive. In the last week considerable Irish attention and media speculation has been given to the reported 7th assassination of Evo Morales plot since he was democratically elected president of Bolivia, a state with which Ireland shares no embassy. When a young Irish man died in the company of his friend, a war veteran of the Balkan conflict, in a Bolivian hotel the president of Bolivia was out of that state preparing to meet with Barack Obama. For the first time an assassination plot against Morales sparked no comment from his friend and ally Hugo Chavez. Curiously, because after the first reported plot Venezuelan had offered all intelligence assistance to the Andean government to protect it from its many perceived enemies. Instead Chavez presented Obama with a book on CIA black operations in Latin America which has since become a best seller. Today Obama has specifically condemned all assassination plots and attempts to overthrow the Morales government. ... read full story / add a comment

It has. And this link to a story in today's Guardian shows it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/apr/15/g20-protest-po...logue

Corporate media a few years ago had very little or no interest in the predictable response from the state to protesters who questioned the nature of the system and questioned capitalism. At this link the Guardian has a pile of videos showing police brutality against London 2009 G20 protesters. It’s fairly tame stuff for anyone who has been with a few metres of the riot squad really going for it, but none the less it is shocking stuff for most Guardian readers: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/apr/15/g20-protest-po...logue ... read full story / add a comment

In a report published in the Irish Times print and Web editions on Thursday 2 April, Mark Weiss in Jerusalem tells us that Israel’s new prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, will pursue peace "negations" on three levels. Not peace negotiations, but "peace negations".

Is the coining of this new term the work of the reporter's automatic spell checker, or is it a Freudian slip that reveals an unconscious truth about Netanyahu's attitude to peace with the Palestinians?

international / animal rights Sunday April 05, 2009 - 17:57 by Sea Lion Defense Brigade   image 1 image
In the Northwest United States, on the Columbia river, a war is being waged against Nature. Humans are at war with the fish, with the sea lions, and with the river itself. As fishing industry is killing off tens of thousands of endangered salmon, and the Bonneville dam is killing of tens of thousands more, wildlife "managers" are executing sea lions as scapegoats so that they can raise fishing quotas yet again, for the third year in a row, on the endangered salmon. The sea lions are supposed to be congressionally protected, but wildlife "managers" claim that they must kill off predators in order to leave more fish for fishermen to kill in their nets. PLEASE HELP US to stop this. ... read full story / add a comment
