http://www.welfare.ie/publications/sw108.html I find European Commission working too slow in this issue; anti-discrimination groups and unions don't seem to me to be taking it seriously enough, the general public is uninformed. At best, people show not much interest. This is part of a complaint about the implementation of the Habitual Residence Condition by the Irish Government. Let me know what you think. read full story / add a comment

This story describes how after World War II, millions of tonnes of nerve gas weapons were dumped at sea off the US. Apparently now it is beginning to wash up and much of the containers would be corroded by now. Also worth noting, but NOT covered in the news report is that there are millions of tonnes of munitions (incendinary bombs -phosphorous ) dumped in the Irish Sea between the UK and the Isle of Man and a few years back, some of it washed up off Wicklow and Wexford. The munitions were supposed to be dumped in some relatively deep trench there, but an investigation that took to people who worked on the ships say they often didn't bother go out all the rate and the stuff got dumped in shallow water too. This probably applies in the US case too -below read full story / add a comment

A CIA plane used to abduct suspected terrorists for torture in other countries landed in Copenhagen in March. Frank Aaen, Danish MP for the Red-Green Alliance, party spokesperson on defence issues and member of the Foreign Policy Committee, is calling the Conservative Danish foreign minister to explain what the plane was doing in Copenhagen. According to the Norwegian paper Aftenbladet, the foreign minister originally refused to put a stop to overflights of CIA abduction planes, stating that they were not in contravention of Danish law. He has recently told the American authorities that Danish airspace may not be used for purposes that are in contravention of international conventions. [But who knows how the US will interpret that?] The article below is a translation from an article by the Danish wire service, Ritzau. read full story / add a comment

Bush has announced that Libby is “innocent until proven guilty”, one law applies to disgraced officials while another to the Australian, David Hicks (and many others) who have been denied even the most basic human rights (while they rot for years in illegal detention centres around the world).
