I have tried to give the discussion verbatim where possible, but due to sound quality and the natural cadence of conversation, on occasion it wasn't possible to catch every word. Where I have some doubt about the actual words, I have used [ ?] read full story / add a comment

Aspects of living in Dublin 2002-07 reminded of my formative years in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. A marriage of police corruption with the denial of basic civil liberties and routine deaths in custody. Times that produced some pretty good music. "Pig City" was an '83 punk single by anarchist friend Tony Kniepp, recently it became the title of a book about the Brisbane music scene under Joh and a few months it was a reunion gig. Irish Premiere of Ricky Lake's acclaimed documentary will be shown at a private screening on January 16 and 17 2008.

This controversial documentary although focused on US maternity care is VERY relevant to Irish mothers and their experiences of childbirth in Ireland.

Birth: it’s a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system read full story / add a comment

Yet another provo leaves party, admits that provisionalism is about administrating British rule in Ireland. Some say no one could have "predicted" the manner in which the provos have turned. However Republicans at the time of the 1986 split correctly "mapped" the future of the provosionals using proir history. Indeed while anyone with any grasp of history could have done so, only those affiliated with RSF did.

We expect that a top Irish obstetrician with so much experience and training would have a firm understanding of what normal birth entails.

We should also expect that all maternity practices are based on the latest international clinical guidelines......are our expectations too high?
