Gordon Deegan's report quotes an Inspector Tom Kennedy who appears to have trouble with the meanings of words or else is trying to twist the truth. Inspector Kennedy labels Dubsky's non-violent direct action protest "extremely dangerous behaviour" and insinuates that this peaceful, principled and moral action was not "a peaceful protest". I publish the full text of this article below as it appears that only those with an account with the Indo can actually read the links. Please let me know if this is unwanted/unacceptable on Indymedia.ie. Personally I think that there's no problem in documenting the spin of corporate media, but I understand there may be different opinions and am prepared to go with the consensus. Deegan's article is pretty good in that it mentions that the protests are about the USAF abusing our neutrality at Shannon. read full story / add a comment

There has been no official declaration, no formal surrender, but the Al Aqsa intifadeh, launched by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat two years ago, is over. As usual, the Palestinians have lost. "All forms of Palestinian violence have to stop," Arafat's military chief, Abdel Razak Yehiyeh, told an interviewer. "All resistance acts that are characterized by violence, such as using arms or even stones ... are harmful." read full story / add a comment

In previous issues of the Corporate Europe Observer, we have reported European industry lobby groups campaigning to influence the negotiations on the new EU Treaty, which was finalised at the Summit in Nice in December 2000. One of the main corporate demands was for further centralisation of the EU's decision-making on international trade, through changes in the EU Treaty's Article 133. Diverse NGOs and grassroots groups from around Europe campaigned against giving the European Commission "fast-track" powers, which would further deepen the democratic gap. Kenneth Haar, SOS-WTO Denmark, looks at what the Nice Treaty means for the EU's international trade policies. — By Kenneth Haar, SOS WTO (Denmark read full story / add a comment
