President Trump can topple the Paris Climate Agreement house of cards by putting energy policy on a sound and rational footing. Indeed, says Tilak Doshi, any nation doing the same would reject the climate change hobgoblin.

The innocence and wonder of children is something that sane and decent people strive to cherish and protect. The ubiquity of terms like "child abuse" in the media can lead us to almost become innured to the reality of these repellent crimes. Rational adults expect law agencies to have such crimes prioritised and investigations prosecuted with professional "zeal" for want of a better term. Alas what happens when a cloud of doubt is cast over those very agencies and professions whose remit is to protect the weak and the vulnerable ? read full story / add a comment

There is something politically odd about Bush’s tour of various Latin American countries. South American nations were ‘lost’ to the U.S. some time ago – the price paid for America’s fixation in the Middle East. Bush is loathed internationally but is particularly despised in Latin America. The Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez accurately called Bush a “political cadaver” and led 20,000 Argentinian supporters in the chant, “gringo go home”, during his counter-tour of the region. read full story / add a comment

Over the past three years under Mr Justice Morgan the one sided preliminary hearings have continued and preparations for the civil case have been ongoing with an input from the plaintiffs only.
The sole evidence against Michael McKevitt is that of informer David Rupert. However, on this occasion his evidence is conditional on whether he is to face cross-examination or not. Mr Rupert received an assurance that as Mr McKevitt will have no legal representation he will not face a rigorous cross-examination and he will have a free run to give whatever evidence he wishes. The assurances given to Rupert may ring hollow and it is possible that the issue of legal aid will be resolved in McKevitt’s favour, no other conclusion could be reached in the interest of fairness. Under renewed circumstances, Mr Rupert may not be as enthusiastic to face cross-examination by McKevitt’s legal team.

In keeping with usual prectice, the police of the Islamo-Fascist Iranian state attacked women who were gathering to celebrate International Women's Day. In Dublin we dealt with their Catholic equivalents at the fake clinic. Sadly in Iran Clerical Fascists won the day.

Iranian police clashed on Thursday with scores of rights activists who gathered in front of parliament to celebrate International Women's Day, one of the activists said.

"Police attacked a gathering of some 700 women's rights activists and hit them with batons," the activist, who asked not to be named, told Reuters. Police cars and ranks of police blocked the roads to prevent the demonstrators from marching, the activist said.

Given the almost total media blackout of Republican Sinn Féin during the Stormont election the results for its candidates were only as expected. Even the name of Republican Sinn Féin was suppressed by the Stormont régime’s electoral body and a compliant media followed suit. Our candidates were styled “Independents”, taking away our coherent strategy and sense of direction. read full story / add a comment

During the Scooter Libby trial which ended this week , it was revealed that governments like to release bad news on a Friday on the assumption that most stories that appear on a Saturday are not followed up.
We can expect tomorrow's news to be dominated by the north’s local council elections results ,so all around, it would seem like a good day to announce the launch of an inquiry into collusion between the RUC and the IRA’s security department

“It is thought that a number of IRA killers were protected from prosecution because they were working as agents for Special Branch and other agencies.”

During the height of the bin tax battle, Anti-Bin Tax activists argued that the introduction of bin charges would lead to amongst other things, fewer jobs, increase in collection routes for remaining workers, increase in illegal dumping, introduction of private operators and the end of the waiver system. In two articles in the IMPACT news it would seem that the penny has finally dropped there. I post the articles here in full as non-IMPACT members might not get to see these articles. read full story / add a comment
