Today, two campaign groups are publishing their groundbreaking research on the extent of military involvement in British universities . Seventy per cent of the projects investigated were sponsored by three industry leaders: BAE Systems, RollsRoyce and the controversially privatised research group QinetiQ. The report, Study War No More, has been produced by Campaign Against Arms Trade and the UK branch of the Fellowship for Reconciliation, a long-established interfaith peace group with headquarters in New York state. read full story / add a comment

For those following the Hidden History on Coolnacrease below is published a transcript of the Joe Duffy Liveline programme of Nov 6th 2007 on RTE. It features Jack Lane and Tom Carew. There is also a link to the transcript of the previous day's Liveline where the same topic was duscussed. I have tried to give the discussion verbatim where possible, but due to sound quality and the natural cadence of conversation, on occasion it wasn't possible to catch every word. Where I have some doubt about the actual words, I have used [ ?] read full story / add a comment

Aspects of living in Dublin 2002-07 reminded of my formative years in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. A marriage of police corruption with the denial of basic civil liberties and routine deaths in custody. Times that produced some pretty good music. "Pig City" was an '83 punk single by anarchist friend Tony Kniepp, recently it became the title of a book about the Brisbane music scene under Joh and a few months it was a reunion gig. Download the recent radio show on the link below.... read full story / add a comment

Irish Premiere of Ricky Lake's acclaimed documentary will be shown at a private screening on January 16 and 17 2008. This controversial documentary although focused on US maternity care is VERY relevant to Irish mothers and their experiences of childbirth in Ireland. Birth: it’s a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system read full story / add a comment

Yet another provo leaves party, admits that provisionalism is about administrating British rule in Ireland. Some say no one could have "predicted" the manner in which the provos have turned. However Republicans at the time of the 1986 split correctly "mapped" the future of the provosionals using proir history. Indeed while anyone with any grasp of history could have done so, only those affiliated with RSF did. read full story / add a comment

The reality is that Ireland is now firmly in the imperialist camp in world affairs alongside the US/UK. In four crucial areas of foreign policy – Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Palestine – Ireland is fully behind the US/UK in their aggressive behaviour towards the Muslim world. You will search in vain in the Programme for Government for any mention of actual policy – past, present or future – on Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Palestine. But it is a racing certainty that, despite the presence of the Green Party, the new government will continue to support (a) the US/UK wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; (b) the US/UK punishment of Iran for enriching uranium, which is Iran’s right as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT); and (c) the US/UK backing for the Israeli occupation and colonisation of Arab lands. read full story / add a comment
