Dishevled and lost looking, we sat perched on the concrete wall outside Top Oil on Amien Street. With no banners, and no leaflets, if there was a bus top there at least it could have done something of a job in justifying our presence outside a seemingly random petrol station in the city centre. We didn't spend the whole evening looking lost, eventually somebody showed up and we preceeded to leaflet people as they passed and cars as they went in. read full story / add a comment

In June 2001, in the Italian city of Genoa, protests were held against the G8 at whish a young anarchist, Carlo Giuliani, was killed and many more protestors (Irish included) were beaten, assaulted and falsely imprisoned by the Italian state. Almost two and a half years later and most irish people still don't fully understand why this protest was held, why did the Italian state act so violently and just how violent the Italian state was on those June days. read full story / add a comment

Determined that there should be SOME kind of opposition in the Stormont Assembly, Eamonn McCann has agreed to stand for election to the Assembly. He points out that while the other parties are at each others' throats all the time about 'constitutional' issues, they are at one in implementing the neo-liberal agenda of privatisation and public sector cuts. As for imperialism, he argues that "The fight against imperialism in 2003 is a fight against US-led imperialism across the globe, or it is nothing. Those who welcome Bush as “a friend of Ireland” position themselves on the side of imperialism." read full story / add a comment
