Background: The Free Aceh Movement (GAM) has been fighting for independence in the oil- and gas-rich Aceh province of Indonesia since 1976. Thousands of innocent civilians have died in the intervening years, many of them killed by Indonesian soldiers and paramilitaries hired by local and Western oil firms to protect their pipelines and factories in Aceh. In May, under the guise of Bush's "war on terror", the Indonesian military launched an offensive against the GAM, its largest operation since the brutal 1975 invasion of East Timor, which was supported by US President Gerald Ford and his war criminal sidekick, Henry Kissinger. The Aceh offensive has been all but ignored by the Western media... read full story / add a comment

Bertie Ahern, and sidekick Royston Brady (the new Lord Mayor), will be opening the redeveloped park on the corner of Gardiner Street and Sean McDermot Street on Friday (11th).

This is the same Bertie whose pals have just passed a law allowing Councils to stop collecting rubbish from the 70% in Dublin who are boycotting the double tax.

If he thinks he'll get away with it, he can think again. Plans are already being put together for peaceful but effective direct action to ensure that they have to pick up all our bins.

If they need more cash let them go after their millionaire stud farm friends - instead of trying to make ordinary people pay twice for the same service.

Protesters are gathering at 1.30pm. Come along and give Bertie an earful.

Privatising the world: water, seeds, genes, healthcare - very few things today are not thought to be considered saleable comodities. 'The Bottom Line' investigates the privatising of the world and invites us to reflect on the 'common good' notion which is threatened both by the decreasing role of the state and the prevailing trend to patent everything that belonged to society for generations. With stories from Mexico, India, Canada and France. Mostly in English, narration is in Irish with English subtitles throughout.

An Domhan ar Díol: Uisce, síolta, géinte agus cúram sláinte - is beag rud nach féidir a dhíol sa lá atá inniu ann. Déanann an clár seo cíoradh ar phríobháidiú an domhain agus tarraingíonn ár n-aird ar an meon 'leas na ndaoine', meon atá i mbaol anois mar gheall ar ról an Stáit i saol na linne a bheith ag laghdú agus an claonadh a bhíonn ann paitinn a fháil ar gach rud, fiú rudaí a ceapadh riamh anall go mba leis an bpobal i gcoitinne iad. read full story / add a comment
