3 Dominican nuns in U.S. jails since their October plowshares disarmamanet action on an ICBM missile silo have been convicted of sabotage. The nuns have been denied a fair trial in which they coould defend themselves under international law and the Nuremburg Principles. IN previous cases U.S. plowshares activists have received 8 & 18 year sentences when convicted of sabotage. The nuns face a max of 30 years. read full story / add a comment

UTV reports that David Ford, the Alliance Party leader, said that Bush, during his meeting with party leaders, saw a linkage between US efforts toward Ireland and the wider world scene. "There was a very specific and explicit linkage between the Middle East and what is happening here." said Mr. Ford. This is in sharp contrast to Gerry Adams' claim that there is a contradiction between US policy in Ireland and in Iraq. read full story / add a comment

People Before Profit. The Tobin Tax & the campaign to end world poverty. A public talk by Donnacha Ó'Briain. Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain st. Cork. Wednesday April 9th, 7:30pm. The Tobin Tax (James Tobin) would put a small levy on every currency transaction engaged in by the big banks. This would raise over € 100 billion per year to be used as part of a Global Humanitarian Fund to eradicate poverty.
