This is a frightening report and the 'demand destruction' it describes - due to unprecedentedly high prices of oil - explains the recent fall in oil price. Global misery.

Choice Ireland believes that vulnerable women in crisis pregnancies deserve help and support in coming to terms with the difficult choices they face in their situation – not the lies, bullying, and manipulation of the WRC. For this reason we are campaigning to have this rogue agency shut down and as part of this campaign we will be maintaining a presence outside it every Saturday this month of July. This Saturday we continue our protest outside the WRC. This protest raises awareness about the WRC's activities and prevents them from traumatising more women for as long as we are there. Choice Ireland is preparing for an oireachtas committee meeting to have rogues agencies like this regulated and we will be collecting signatures for a petition to support this. We hope that you can offer us your support and help spread the word about what is going on. If you can't make it this Saturday then come along to our big demo on Saturday the 26th of July. read full story / add a comment

Scandal of Justice Continues: New Extension of Remand in Custody for
Austrian Animal Protectionists

Because the suspects refused to renounce animal protection, their remand in custody was extended on the grounds that there remains the risk they will perpetrate criminal offences!

The District Court of Wiener Neustadt extended the remand in custody of the ten animal protectionists for a further two months today.
Even after inspection of the numerous computers and photos that have been confiscated, not one single substantiating charge has been added and many of the existing charges that made the strong impression of having been fabricated have already been dropped by the Chief Public Prosecutor. Nevertheless, the authorities insist on further remanding the animal protectionists in custody.

Every generation has its political rock band: The Fugs, The Clash…and Rage Against The Machine.

RATM formed in Los Angeles in 1991 and released the self-titled debut a year later, one of the definitive CDs of the 90s. The cover featured the image of the “burning monk”, who burned himself to death in 1963: an ultimate image of commitment and protest. The music was a highly potent mix of metal, funk, rap, and anti-capitalist politics.

They made two more albums and a hard-driving CD of cover versions of political or socially-conscious rock and rap songs (including Springsteen’s “Ghost of Tom Joad”) after which they fell victim to internal arguments, and split in 2000.

But now they’re back. read full story / add a comment

It is believed the long-standing Drogs fan, aged about 50 shouted ‘n****r’ and other racist comments at Drogheda’s Senegal-born striker Ibrahima Iyane Thiam during the recent home game against Sligo Rovers.

Iyane Thiam, starting a game at United Park for the first time, was unaware of the tirade, but stewards moved in to evict the man after he was reported by other Drogheda supporters who had heard the vile remarks. read full story / add a comment

I believe that the deal between Dublin City council and JC Decaux, swapping the space on public footpaths for 126 billboards in exchange for a couple of hundred bikes has all the hallmarks of a corrupt deal. I simply cannot believe that, knowing the facts that are public, that any local authority in the country would agree to this deal, without someone in charge being either blackmailed or bribed to agree to it. read full story / add a comment
