Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

Any parent can currently withdraw their child from school if they're unhappy. Labour's Schools Bill ends that right for many, giving local authorities a veto. That's why all parents should protest this state power grab.

Bush's policies have made our world a more a far more unstable and dangerous place. The so called 'war on terror' has meant death and destruction to ordinary people in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has increased the danger of more terrorist attacks taking place.

However, Bush is simply carrying through the wishes of US big business who gave generously to his campaign fund in 2000 when he was running for President. As well as opposing the war on terror and enviromental destruction that the Bush administration has brought, we need to oppose the capitalist system that he represents. Socialist Youth believes that this should be linked with the struggle for a socialist society where peoples needs come before profit. read full story / add a comment

The first attempt at blockading Shannon was marvellous testament to the willingness of the anti-war movement to engage in mass, non-violent, civil disobedience. The turn-out on the day was superb, not only because of the travelling involved, the time of the year and the energy-sapping nature of relentless anti-war activity, but also because of the risk of arrest. And the upbeat mood amongst participants suggests a willingness to return sooner rather than later. read full story / add a comment

Letter of invitation to first meeting of ‘Another Europe is Possible’

Saturday, December 13th at 2pm in the Teachers Club, 36 Parnell sq, Dublin.

As you are probably aware Ireland takes over the presidency of the EU for a six month period beginning in January 2004. This will involve the Irish Government spending millions of euros on hosting summits of the EU Commission, meetings of the Council of Ministers, OECD Ministerial meetings and possibly a meeting with George Bush and the EU heads of state. read full story / add a comment

Over the past 5 weeks I have got myself a new job. Every Wednesday morning I arise at 7 am and head out to join the brother, along with comrades from the SWP Dun Laoghaire branch (who, in fairness, have gotten up even earlier!) and some local non-payers. Our mission to make sure that every bin on the Granville Road, Doonsalla, Watsons road is lifted whether they have paid some, all or no bin tax. The concept of the EU is still a popular one in Ireland as is shown by the detail of the results of a recent poll on the EU. It is a far less popular concept generally in Europe as is shown by the headline results of the self-same poll. This bodes ill for the ongoing negotiations on a draft EU constitution taking place at present in Italy. read full story / add a comment
