Socialist Forum: Fair Trade, Free Trade and Globalisation
Location: The Red Parrot, Dorset Street North Dublin
Time: 8.30pm Monday 18, April.
Speaker: Sinead Kennedy

The Trade Justice Movement is a fast growing movement including trade unions, aid agencies, environment and human rights campaigns, fair-trade organisations, faith and consumer groups, and political organisations. The growth of Fair Trade groups in Ireland and the increasing lobby to make certain towns in Ireland ‘Fair Trade Towns’ has brought the issue to the forefront of the political agenda. Intertwined with this, the call on the richest nations to drop the debt that strangles the economies of much of the third world will reach a crescendo later this year when the meeting of the G8 nations in Scotland. The fundamentally iniquitous nature of trade under capitalism will be explored at this forum and the main issues that arise within the fair trade movement.

Dear friends,

Below are details of a march to be held in Athlone this week in which I am to speak on behalf of the Anti Racism Network of Northern Ireland - lending full active support to this campaign

Once again we see the Thatcherite agenda of the Minister of Justice. I would urge all organisations that have supporters in the South to promote the march, the issue, and to attend.

There will also be other activist networks such as those involved in Street Seen who will be travelling down to lend active support.

If people want to go down drop me a line as we will be leaving for Dublin on Friday evening read full story / add a comment

A Public meeting will be taking place this Thursday in the Abberley Court Hotel, Tallaght, 8PM.

The Speaker will be Socialist Party Councillor for Talalght Central Ward, Mick Murphy, who was the first to expose this scandal, and along with his fellow party member, Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins, have spearheaded the campaign for justice for the Tursh workers.

So if you want to get a concise low down as to what has happened in relation to GAMA construction and its mistreatment of its workers, feel free to come along.

This scandal has shown another ugly side to the Capitalist system, and the link between it and Capitalism will also be discussed.

Hope to see you there. read full story / add a comment
