Iranian film maker Jafar Panahi, who was released after three months in Iran’s notorious Evin prison, protests that at the moment he has little hope of making another film - all he can do is film one in his head. But, he says defiantly: “I will have to make a film - that is my life.” “I started a hunger strike”, he says, “when one night they took me for questioning and the interrogators asked: ‘What is the name of your film?’ I thought they were referring to the film I was making when they arrested me in my house on March 1. So I replied: ‘That film isn’t finished yet, so it hasn’t got a name.’ They said: ‘No, no, we are asking about the film you are making in prison in your cell.’ read full story / add a comment

Campaigners for St Luke's Cancer Hospital in Rathgar thought that the decision not to make it the southside Centre of Excellence in 2005 which meant closure and a move to St James Hospital had been indefinitely suspended due to the local and national opposition. But no, Minister Harney who always knows best ,has a Bill before the Dail at the moment with the innocent title Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2010 which will dissolve the board of St Luke's and transfer the valuable 18 acre site and the other assets to the dysfunctional HSE who might well sell the land at a bargain price to balance their books. Anyone who cares about this great hospital needs to get onto TDs immediately especially John Gormley and Chris Andrews. read full story / add a comment

The Trash Culture Revue will be held from Wednesday 16 - Sunday 20 June, in Cork and will be run through mutantspace.ie, an Irish online arts resource that’s run on the gift economy principle. With over 500 members across the country and over 1500 skills in its resource bank mutantspace.ie is the largest independent resource of its kind in the country and is in the perfect position to provide free practical support to the development and production of this Revue. It is this alternative production system that lies at the heart of The Trash Culture Revue. It is this freedom to create that allows us to give people a new space in which to experiment, fail, make and play no matter who they are, where they are, what they do or when they do it. read full story / add a comment
