Great news! I've just had it confirmed that CIE Workers will down tools at 12 noon on "Day X" for a minimum of 10 minutes. However from what I've been told the CIE Shop Stewards have said that they'll back any workers who decide to stay out for longer than 10 minutes and I know that many of the CIE Workers will down tools for the rest of the day on "Day X". Many of them have said that they'll block the roads and railways with their buses and trains. Hopefully this will spur other key sectors of Workers such as ESB and An Post Workers to stop work at 12 noon on "Day X" and to stay out for the rest of the day. read full story / add a comment

Speaking on Radio Free Eireann, NYC, today, Eamonn McCann said that when Ulster said NO to Bush's war, Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter were united in solidarity with worldwide protests. He said he saw a continuity between protests in Ireland today and the activism of the civil rights movement. He recalled being arrested with James Connolly's grandson in NYC in 1970 protesting the refusal of the St. Pats. Day committee to allow Derry Civil Rights Assoc. to march. To be against Bush and and his war is not to be anti-American as claimed by Niall O'Dowd, said McCann. O'Dowd should report honestly and not be coming out with 'asinine nonsense' said McCann. O'Dowd edits the Smurfit subsidized 'Irish Voice' and liaised between Adams and Clinton in the events leading up to the IRA surrender process. read full story / add a comment

The Galway Alliance Against War float at the St. Patrick Day’s parade was greeted with applause every step of the way up through Galway city. Some two hundred peace activists carrying white flags followed behind a huge banner, which read “Stop Cogadh – Stop War”. And as they weaved their way along the streets of Galway they sang the Irish song “Síochàn dibh go léir” to the beat of two samba drums. Members of the Galway Alliance distributed white ribbons and leaflets to the spectators. read full story / add a comment

But the important question is, how do we penetrate the numbness of Israelis, soldiers and civilians alike, about the wrongness of our actions - wrong morally and stupid strategically.  As virtually everyone has recognized by now, the brutal policies only create more bitterness and desire for revenge.  How do we get the message across to Israelis that the government is undermining our security in the territories with each act of humiliation and cruelty?  How do we convey to Israelis that we are behaving in some ways like the persecutors of Jews have behaved from time immemorial? Israeli peace and human rights activists have been wracking our brains over how to accomplish this.  The young men and women who refuse to serve in the army have done more than their share to raise awareness about the army's cruel deeds, though they face court martial and prison as a result. read full story / add a comment

This would get lost under the original posting due to its lenght. ================================================ After a visit to Shannon Garda Station, I have reformated this to make it comly with FORM C8 - the Garda Siochana Statement form. Just copy all of the below into word and read it. Delete anything that does not apply to your belief. e.g. if the landing of these planes does not instil fear in you, then simply delete that paragraph. print the document, fill in your name and address (I'm not sure if you actually need to fill in the rest, but your phone number would be helpful) Then bring it to a police station. DO NOT SIGN IT PRIOR to bringing it to a Garda Station as your signature and date must be witnessed by a Garda, who will then sign it and enter it in the log. This is all designed to save you read full story / add a comment
