Sometimes politicians have to lose to win so the other side can show its true colours. Trump is the standout example, says Prof James Allan. Had he won in 2020, we would not have had the blitz of the last four weeks.

Michael Moore is great. He's naturally been compared to Mark Thomas for his full on, and frighteningly funny tirades against corporate america. He has a new film, the first documentary in decades to be allowed into Cannes, and the unanimous winner of the 55th Anniversary Jury Prize. The website is really sharp - check out the brief (southparkesque) history of America in Cartoon Format...also loads of clips, and the trailer is superb. Make sure your speakers are plugged in, sit back and enjoy.... btw I've nothin' to do with him, or the film, or the site but I just think its worth tellin people about...also, in the slightly stale world of computer screen imagery ,this site is sparkling...and it's politically spot on! You can cut straight to the fun bits at: http://bowlingforcolumbine.com/media/clips/index.php Site in gen: (also poss without 'www' bit) http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com read full story / add a comment

On December 12th/13th 2002 the EU summit in Copenhagen will take place. There are sufficient reasons to protest, for example against the racism of Fortress Europe and the European surveillance delusion. In addition however also the ethnophil/"voelkisch" EU foreign policy should get attacked. Under German leadership, the European union has pushed forward the supression of the "multi-ethnic-state" Yugoslavia in favour of "voelkisch", nationalist gangs (UCK) and states (Croatia, Slovenia). Furthermore the EU supports -morally and financially- the islamic and Arab fight for national identity under despots like Khomeini, Hussein and Arafat. read full story / add a comment

Day of Action Against Fees Boycott Lectures and Reclaim your College This government has increased capitation fees by 69% and now plans to introduce fees of E4,000 or more. We cannot lie down and just accept this attack on education. Fees of E4,000 and more will mean thousands of student dropping out of college, poverty conditions for those who remain, and hundreds of thousands of ordinary young people being denied access to college. As the government is now firmly set on the re-introduction of fees, we have to be firmly set on opposing them - we have to be willing and able to take serious mass action against fees. read full story / add a comment

IFI Workers are protesting at the manner in which they have been treated since the decision by the Irish Government and ICI - which holds a 49 per cent stake in IFI – to liquidate the company. The 620 workers from the 3 Irish plants received: · less than a single day’s notice of termination of their employment; · no statutory redundancy payments · no regulatory RP1s (Redundancy Payments forms) which are necessary in order to receive statutory redundancy payments. · no assurances that their pension fund would be able to meet its liability because of the drop in investment returns. A high percentage of workers have served in the company for over 20 years. The workers want guarantees that all statutory entitlements due to them will be funded by the shareholders. They also want an agreed severance package and any shortfall in pension entitlements to be funded by the shareholders read full story / add a comment
