The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) is horrified that a CONVICTED serial animal abuser in County Limerick is apparently running for a Council seat in the Adare area elections. Richard Smith,(48) a dairy farmer and also owner of Company Richie Tryes on the Kilmallock Road* is hoping people will vote him in as a Councillor in Adare. At the beginning of April, the G20 group of major world economies met in London. Media attention focused as much on the confrontation between police and demonstrators outside the conference as on what was going on between the suits inside. On 16th May, a day of action has been called by the European Trade Union Congress under the banner ‘Fight The Crisis. Put People First.’

Grassroots Unite are calling on everyone - trade unionist or not, public AND private sector workers and the unemployed to get out on the streets and protest against the bailout of the banks, socially unjust taxes, pension and income levies, cuts in jobs, pay, hours, pension benefits, medical services, education and social welfare.

What can we, the plain people of Ireland, contribute to the Theorists, Government politicians, the Bankers, the professions, the economists - to those who have constructed NAMA. These are the people we must learn to trust and if this is so, we the plain people of Ireland must be able to contribute our views, in a collective way, as part of the people grassroots press.
