Residents Against Racism have been shortlisted for a MAMA multicultural group award. The MAMA awards are presented in two categories, multicultural and media. RAR have been nominated in the multicultural group category. The award is for groups "who have excelled in the promotion and celebration of cultural diversity on the island of Ireland". The awards are run by Metro Eireann and this years will be the 4th annual event. The chair of the Judging panel is Niall Crowley of the Equality authority and includes, amongst others, Fintan O'Toole, and Gerry Stembridge. The awards are taking place in Cork on May the 29th.

The media’s reaction to President Bush’s speech this week in Riga, Latvia, wherein he strongly denounced the injustice perpetrated on half of Europe 60 years ago at the Yalta Conference. It was a Yalta that President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill agreed to the Soviet takeover of half of Europe. In aid of the family of Igor Letona (Basque Political Prisoner). Igor lived in Derry for a couple of years and he is actually inprisoned in Paris. His family must travel for more than 1.500 miles every weekend to visit him and they have to face a big costs to do it.

Just heard that five Jewish owned or occupied buildings were defaced and vandalised last night. A swastika was painted on the Irish Jewish Museum in Portobello, other buildings to be vandalised were the synagogues in Rathmines and Dolphin's Barn. Also attacked was the home of the chief Rabbi of Ireland, as well as a retirement home/centre for senior citizens. read full story / add a comment
