International Networking Meeting in Thessaloniki against the bosses of G8

category international | anti-capitalism | event notice author Saturday May 14, 2005 19:08author by Kyriakos - Antiauthoritarian Movement (Assembly of Salonica) - Greeceauthor email ita_gr at yahoo dot co dot ukauthor address www.resistance2003.grauthor phone 00302310261290 Report this post to the editors

20 – 22 of May 2005

From the 20th to the 22nd of May, in the Theology Department of Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki, will take place an organising meeting of the DISSENT! Network for the preparation of the mobilisations against the G8 summit which will take place in Scotland during July 2005.

The decision for this meeting to take place in Greece was taken in the previous international networking meeting in Germany.

The fact that for the first time an international meeting against the G8 is happening in Greece is alone of large political value. We, who accepted the proposal to organize this meeting, consider that this whole undertaking concludes not only direct and short-term objectives but on the same moment it is a bet with deeper and long-term objectives. The movement of resistance and especially the antiauthoritarian one has to start thinking how to diversify and organise its perspectives by setting the foundations of a more stable political and social relationship against the tactics of the global bosses, and not just look as far as the present situation and the specific moment of the struggle.

During the three-days meeting, which is an open call to everyone, we open the space and the moment in order to express central issues about the meaning of the appointment against the bosses, as there is the knowledge, the direct experience and the participation in previous such appointments/mobilisations. The international meetings and mobilisations are the opportunity for the resisters to set the foundations and the basis in order to create international relationships and networking, not just about the obvious issues (exchange of contacts and opinions), but on the perspective of an essential networking between the participators. All of us are called to set the new meaning of our resistance with directness on the level of objectives and openness on the level of participation, and on the same moment by overcoming the ideological forms of the past. So in this international meeting the coordination against the G8 summit in Scotland should not be the only objective.

Accomodation

The space where we can hold the events is the Theology Department of the Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki, the same place that we squatted in order to accommodate the mobilizations against the EU summit, June 2003 (you can see some photos of the building here).

The days we propose are the 20-21-22 of May. The building will be taken on the morning of Friday (20/05) and if people come earlier they can sleep in houses. We are thinking to leave the building on Monday (23/05) morning. In the extreme case that too many people come earlier or if too many people have to leave later (and we won’t be able to have a bed, or a floor J, for everyone), then we will attempt to take it over earlier or keep it for longer.

We would like to know how many people (and from which groups) are coming in order to prepare the accommodation needs (send your emails at [email protected] or [email protected]).
