If you want a snapshot of how the Blob works, look no further than David Miliband. Once a Labour Minister, now paid ?1m a year running a 'charity' that receives millions from the UK Government. Nice work if you can get it.

The WHO once aimed to help nations stand on their own two feet, but now it mainly pushes the agendas of the rich and powerful, says Dr David Bell. That's why it cares more about experimental vaccines than basic sanitation.

500 tons = 500,000kg assuming 333g of food or other material per person this would barely feed the people of Basra for one day. The aid by sea is a farce, the US/K forces are shipping huge quantities of food and material to their troops every day by road from Kuwait. Given the 150,000 troops they are probably moving in tens of thousands of food and war material per day! The 500 tons of aid is a pittance and a joke and is pure propaganda! Why don't they ship material in by road if they are serious about relief! I suggest they are not and this is a ruse to starve the Iraqis out on the quiet while depicting themselves as saviours and availing of photo opportunities along the way. read full story / add a comment

In recent times there have been many racist and inflammatory statements about refugees and asylum seekers, much of it coming from Fianna Fail, but also from some of the other establishment parties. Now that the war on Iraq is creating more and more refugees these pro-war deputies should be asked if they will welcome these refugees into Ireland read full story / add a comment

Democracy is under threat in the United States; anyone who objects to the conflict in Iraq is not allowed to say so I can personally testify to this as I was told by many friends in the US while visiting recently that they are against the war and attend marches etc. but feel unable to speak out in the workplace etc. for fear of a backlash from war-mongers read full story / add a comment

Over the past few months, the European Union’s foreign policy agenda has witnessed two contradictory trends: the emergence of new challenges (e.g. intra European and European-US tensions regarding war in Iraq) and the resolution of old ones (e.g. final agreement on the “Berlin Plus” accord, providing EU access to NATO assets). read full story / add a comment
