Kicking off with a Critical Mass action on October 1, the Dform festival will run for 3 days in BCN, bringing performers and artists from all over Europe's underground together in an environment made from recycled material.

In many ways it will mark "the answer" to UNICEF Forum 2004 of Cultures which this week ended in debt, failure and recrimination for destroying urban balance in a hypocritcal and cynical attempt to manipulate culture.

Education is not accessible to all in society. A blatant fact. I challenge anybody who thinks on the contrary to this. The reasons for this inequality are abundant. The main reasons are predominantly due to broader social and economic inequalities created and maintained by the present government. read full story / add a comment

Socialist Party Press Release -Presidential Election

Question is not whether there should be an Election; It's whether there should be a Presidency
By Joe Higgins TD

The fact that the bigger Parties in Dáil Éireann are not to put forward candidates for a Presidential Election expresses just how important this office is. The question now is not whether there should be an Election; it's whether there should be a Presidency. Quite clearly, the Presidency is a superfluous office and should be abolished. Talk about the President being able to reach out to the marginalised etc., should be exposed for the cant it is. What groups marginalised by capitalist society need is not symbolic gestures but real changes in policies that affect them and real investment of resources in areas of need.
