Peaceful Carnival and March against racism, war and corporate greed planned for May Day

Another Europe is Possible (a broad alliance of different political parties, trade unionists, community activists and campaigns) is organising a colourful peaceful carnival that will begin at Central Bank, Dame St. Dublin at Mid-day on May 1st and march to Phoenix park where there will be music.

The event itself will be a family-oriented event centred on the themes of opposition to war, racism and privatization. It will begin at the central bank where there will be some speakers such as Susan George, the internationally reknowned debt and global justice campaigner (also vice-president of ATTAC, France). Then we will march in a parade of colour and festivity to the Phoenix Park where there will be a Carnival of music from bands such as King Sativa, Gospel Choirs and many more. read full story / add a comment

George Bush is to visit Ireland on the 25th and 26th of June 2004. While this is probably just an attempt to win the Irish-American vote, it presents us with an opportunity to link the widespread animosity towards Dubya with the ongoing local resistance to the US war machine. read full story / add a comment

The (UK) Independent newspaper today April 2nd 2004 leads with the story of the White House insider who says:
"I saw papers that show US knew al-Qa'ida would attack cities with aeroplanes"

"Whistleblower the White House wants to silence speaks to The Independent
By Andrew Buncombe in Washington
02 April 2004"

"A former translator for the FBI with top-secret security clearance says she has provided information to the panel investigating the 11 September attacks which proves senior officials knew of al-Qa'ida's plans to attack the US with aircraft months before the strikes happened."

On the last mass deportation it is rumoured that there were two Irish children deported. While we should not discriminate due to birth the Irish government has a constitutional obligation to protect Irish children and deporting them into an unfavourable situation is not the way to protect them. It is incredible that the government will attempt to protect the "unborn child" yet when the child is born seems to say Fair game read full story / add a comment

This is an ELECTED official...removed from his earned position...for 'smoking'?! "Smoking" is being made, like the apple in Eden, a Test of Obedience, intentionally with little or no REASON otherwise. If it made intuitive, obvious sense, like laws against robbery and mahem, the test wouldn't work.
One thing is..no one has DEFINED "smoking'" to account for any indusrial, harmful, non-tobacco adulterants.
Maybe Mr. Deasy will express interest.
