"The welcome and generosity of these men was fantastic, I was put at my ease, made to feel safe, I was now among friends. The regime is hard on the Republican Wing in Maghabery, you alternate between 22 and 20 hour lock ups, on a good day you will get 2 hours exercise in the morning and the evening, on a bad day you will get 2 hours exercise in the afternoon only. You are secured in the rec room with access to the cage at these times; this is the only time that you are allowed anything close to free association. There are for all intensive purposes no opportunities for education, and like wise for craft work. You are allowed some cell association on some days; this is where any thing up to three prisoners are locked in one cell for a couple of hours to converse. I availed of these when I could, in order to keep relatively sane" read full story / add a comment

All reports and profiles of Al-Zarqawi do not place him in the criminal genius category. Murdering thug and street crim maybe, but to evade the limitless resources of western agencies for two long years is out of the question unless of course the situation was managed to keep a population distracted, fearful, and compliant while precious resources were plundered and illegal invasions justified. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday 20th June 2006 at 7.30 pm, Theatre L, Newman Building, University College Dublin??Why?
Mental health issues are the number one health concern of adolescents and young adults. The earlier help is given, the better the outcome. There are proven models that produce excellent outcomes for this age group. Yet, young people in Ireland with mental health problems rarely get timely, appropriate and effective help. "To subvert the tyranny of our execrable government, to break the connection with England, the never-failing source of all our political evils and to assert the independence of my country- these were my objectives. To unite the whole people of Ireland, to abolish the memory of all past dissensions, and to substitute the common name of Irishman in place of the denominations of Protestant, Catholic and Dissenter - these were my means."

"Your tenure has also seen the collapse of the community and the breaking of extended family links wrought by the runaway property boom. Director Ken Loach spoke to Tom Behan about his award winning new film The Wind That Shakes The Barley, which is about Ireland’s fight for freedom

Even though Ken Loach’s new film The Wind That Shakes The Barley hasn’t yet opened in cinemas, it has already won a high profile award and created controversy. Ken Loach is on a high after winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Some elements of the British media have insinuated it was just a fluke, or that he won as a kind of “lifetime achievement award”.

Seeing as RTE 's website today has no story about the body found at Carnmoney Cemetery on Monday , here’s a link from BBC northern Ireland . A mans body was found by a workman with what looked like a knife sticking out of it , but the PSNI do not suspect murder . The catholic plot in the cemetery has been repeatedly vandalized by unionists over the past couple of years.
