Vigil to mark the death of Umit Gungor, the 110th hunger striker to die in the protest against isolation prisons in Turkey. Umit died in hospital after setting himself on fire on March 29, TAYAD reported today. As you may or may not have heard, TodayFM are cutting/Have cut Donal Dineen’s fabulous “Here Comes the Night” Show. The reason given (according to yesterdays Times) was that “the numbers didn’t add up” so predictably enough the commercial Station cut it. Col Tim Collins wins double libel damages Colonel Tim Collins, who achieved fame for his eve-of-war speech to troops in Iraq, won substantial libel damages from the Sunday Express and Sunday Mirror yesterday. The Sunday Mirror claimed that soldiers of the Royal Irish Regiment shot dead nine Iraqi soldiers who were surrendering and attempted to hide the bodies in graves to conceal a war crime. read full story / add a comment

On Easter Saturday the 10th of april republicans in the crumlin area of Dublin are holding a march to remember those from the area who faught for Irish Freedom, The march usualy well atended starts at crumlin shopping centre at 3.45 and makes it's way to eamonn Ceannt park on the sundrive rd. Peaceful Carnival and March against racism, war and corporate greed planned for May Day Another Europe is Possible (a broad alliance of different political parties, trade unionists, community activists and campaigns) is organising a colourful peaceful carnival that will begin at Central Bank, Dame St. Dublin at Mid-day on May 1st and march to Phoenix park where there will be music. The event itself will be a family-oriented event centred on the themes of opposition to war, racism and privatization. It will begin at the central bank where there will be some speakers such as Susan George, the internationally reknowned debt and global justice campaigner (also vice-president of ATTAC, France). On the last mass deportation it is rumoured that there were two Irish children deported. While we should not discriminate due to birth the Irish government has a constitutional obligation to protect Irish children and deporting them into an unfavourable situation is not the way to protect them. It is incredible that the government will attempt to protect the "unborn child" yet when the child is born seems to say Fair game read full story / add a comment |
