There was a good turnout yesterday for the annual May day parade in Belfast. The march began just after 11.00 from Belfast Art College, and made its way to St George's market. There was a good atmosphere all round probably helped by the fine weather, and music which ranged from the drum beat to the bagpipe. Anarchists from the Anarchist Federation Ireland and the Anarcho-Syndicalist Federation distributed copies of their respective bulletins -Resistance! and Solidarity -both before and after the march, on which the ASF unveiled an impressive new May day banner. At St. George's market afterwards, there was food, drink, music and stalls selling the literature of the different political organisations involved in the day's events. All in all, a fine day out. The DHKP-C (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front) from Turkey has been included in an EU list of organisations proscribed as "terrorist". The DHKC Brussels Information Bureau has issued a statement responding to the ban, saying that the ban will not stop it from exposing state terrorism in Turkey. This statement was translated into English by the DHKC London Bureau. read full story / add a comment

Professor Nollaig O Gadhra, Galway University, speaking today on Wbai's Radio Free Eireann, NYC, said that Sinn Fein's election campaign was dishonest. They are talking about equality when the North is the issue he said. Also, Sandy Bowyer called for letters of support to be sent to Colm Murphy in Portlaoise Prison, who was not convicted of the Omagh bombing, but of conspiracy. Note: Professor O Gadhra, because of his republican beliefs, was banned from the U.S. for 20 yrs. until his fellow republican, Albert Reynnolds, intervened on his behalf. Now we know why. read full story / add a comment

The two most urgent American responses to the attacks on the country on Sept. 11, have not yet been carried out. Those required responses are to push through a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict, which otherwise is headed toward the general religious war conflagration the conspirators of Sept. 11 wanted; and to take measures to stop the collapse of the U.S. and world economy. read full story / add a comment

Ariel Sharon, the Prime Minister of Israel, is currently facing possible war crime prosecutions for two massacres that occurred 20-years apart: the September 1982 massacre of Palestinian civilians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon (click for more), and the April 2002 Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) mass killings in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. read full story / add a comment

I am o8159 Lt. Donal Roche who was forecefully 'retired' by the President in 1969. I have been trying for 33 years to clear my name. The state is refusing me my military files which I need to see the charges against me. They made a security exception against me under F.O.I. Only 3 Officers have been fired under this draconian "in the interests of the service" rule in 50 years. Recently I lost my struggle for 'discovery' in the courts because of delay. Anyone who heard my pleas on the Marion Finucane show Fri. 4th should contact both the show (1850 715 105) and the taoiseach ([email protected]) if they wish to support my struggle. My disgrace was used to destroy my Sister Adi's bid for the Presidency in 1997 by the same faceless secret forces who framed me back in 1969. This dirty tricks campaign helped elect President McAleese. I read full story / add a comment

I USUALLY save the I-told-you-so gloat for the year-in-review column, but I can't resist noting that Yasser Arafat's Fatah organisation has now come round to my way of thinking on the Jenin refugee camp. "There was no massacre," I wrote here two weeks ago, when Robert Fisk and Fleet Street's other sob-sisters were running around weepin' and a-wailin' about mass graves and war crimes. The Israeli government's latest figures for Jenin put the death toll of Palestinians at 52. The Palestinians themselves put the death toll at - wait for it - 56. read full story / add a comment
