please come to Clover Hill prison court in Clondalkin or Bridewell , behind the Four Courts, tomorrow morning at 10:00am. The men's hearing will be at Clover Hill and the women's , there are 4 of them, at Bridewell. Clover Hill is harder to get to but we need as many people as possible. The hearings are of 25 people arrested on, & most of them held since, Mayday on charges of not moving when told to by the guards & in one case , stealing a police hat. and also 3 people held since last week & charged with tresspassing (in a derelict building) they are probably very shaken & scared of facing increased charges. they need to know they're supported. come and help get their charges dropped. the court begins at 10:30 sharp.we are going to be in the courtrooms. there won't be a demo, some prisoners have said they'd prefer just our support . read full story / add a comment

For decades, the physical and sexual abuse and slave labour of children in industrial schools was Ireland's dirty secret. Mr Sweeney's case echoes the horror stories that began emerging in the 1990s as a generation of often semi-literate survivors recounted experiences described by one victim as "torture and perversion from the middle ages". read full story / add a comment

I have been thinking about the mayday protest for a while now, particularly the confrontation with the gardai. Yet while I can think of plenty of negative results of the black bloc's decision to try force their way through the police lines, I cant think of ONE good thing that came from it. Can anyone out there give me one reason why the day's events would have done less good if the anarchists HADN'T done that? In other words, what was the point? Can anyone give me one good result? And please, I'm not looking to start an argument -I was there too getting soaked with the watercannon, and I'm sure some of the gardai were heavy handed, AND i've nothing against anarchism but that's not the point. How in god's name did this decision contribute to the various causes we were protesting about more than it hindered them? read full story / add a comment

In the last few months, several students have been attacked and beaten by undercover infiltrators for trying to have a voice in the university councils and the center of activism at UNAM - Okupa Che Guevara - is under threat of eviction. The current situation with Pavel (see below) has had very little coverage outside of the university and has continued to be declared by the media as a suicide. Pavel was very active and participated in a lot of events at Che and was a dedicated volunteer of Smaliyel. read full story / add a comment |
