Our new censors tried to ban a video of a Christian bishop being stabbed by a Muslim extremist. But would they have done the same if it was a far-Right assailant attacking a Muslim? Of course not, says Prof James Allan.

The two-State solution would enable the Jewish State to arrogate 80%-84% of mandatory Palestine and deny the vast bulk of the estimated 4-5 million Palestinian refugees their inalienable right to return to their hometowns and villages from which they were expelled at gunpoint by Zionist troops and irregulars, or fled in fear, when the Zionist regime was established in 1948. read full story / add a comment

The Guardian has a review of "Encounters: How Racism Came to Ireland", by Bill Rolston and Michael Shannon. The book explores the origins of Irish racism. The review starts about halfway down the page (the 9th paragraph). One of the review's points is that racism has a deep history in Ireland and has not -- contrary to the startled exclamations of contemporary commentators -- suddenly sprung out of nowhere. It's good to see that O'Connell was on the right side, and good to see reminders of the support from "non-white" leaders for the struggle for Irish independence. read full story / add a comment

Sitting with my fifteen month old daughter beside me, tugging at my arm while I browsed through the Irish Times, it was with dismay that I read of yet another child being been butchered in the Middle East. Only three months older than my own child there was nothing that he could have been guilty of that would mark him out as a legitimate target for someone armed with a bomb. And the cafe where his blue-and-white striped baby-carriage lay was hardly a military installation. read full story / add a comment

In what appears to be an escalation of military use of Shannon, the US Air Force have been sharpening their skills out at Shannon. I got a call to go out there today and witnessed some surreal scenes. If you've never seen a pair of USAF hercules making low tight turns over an Irish town, and making high speed touch-n-go landings at Shannon, believe me, it is a bit unsettling. With Aer Lingus flights grounded by a strike, one could easily have assumed we were at a US Air Force base and not Shannon airport today, because there was little else moving besides military personnel and hardware. read full story / add a comment
