Both yesterday and today, residents in a number of housing estates in the Dundrum and Ballinteer area came out to greet the bin men and talk with them to ensure all bins were collected. The relationship between the residents and bin men was very friendly, as they realize the people are behind them and with privatisation looming, their jobs and job conditions are on the line. read full story / add a comment

Corks Home Helps, members of the Independent Workers Union, took to the streets on Saturday in a march against the health cuts. The march was called because the Southern Health Board has been cutting Home Help hours. The workers are very often the only support and aid many elderly and infirm people have. Its a nasty cutback that hurts the old and effectively cuts workers wages. An angry march of about 200 people wound its way through the cities streets led by the Home Helps ection of the IWU. Young Fine Gael are launching a national campaign to promote their new policy proposals entitled 'A Better Deal for Young Drivers'. The campaign will include public meetings in 16 towns and cities around the country. The campaign's public meeting in Dublin city will take place on Wednesday 1st October at 8:00pm in the Ussher Theatre, Trinity College. Speakers include, FG insurance spokesperson Phil Hogan TD, YFG Senator John-Paul Phelan and Niall Doyle representing the Irish Insurance Industry.
