Hans von Sponeck will speak at a conference to be held by the Irish Peace Society at the University of Limerick on 11 November. The former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations will discuss the urgency of reforms to the UN and the challenges faced by the incoming Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who will replace Kofi Annan on 1 January 2007.

Von Sponeck is expected to be joined by citizens who are concerned by the use of Leipzig airport to transport US troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Von Sponeck’s visit will mark the launch of the English-language edition of his new book:

Providence Resources are Sir Anthony O’Reilly’s oil and gas company. He owns the Herald, the Indo, the Star, the Sunday World, and many local rags. He owns 45% of Providence and his son is CEO.

We have recently received some unverifiable information from our government sources regarding a purported obsession shared by Mick Keelty and Philip Ruddock. The information referred to the existence of a “missing category” of terrorist activity, the existence of which has been severely hampering the ability of both regulatory authorities to adequately fulfil their social obligations. Keelty and Ruddock, in their quest for tighter social regulation, have encountered certain aberrations in the social matrix, the cause of which remains a mystery! read full story / add a comment

The Council Directive known as the Asylum Qualification Directive 2004/83/EC was required to be transposed into Irish Law on the 10th October 2006.

It was. It is part of the new 'Immigration ,Residence and Protection Bill'

It is an interim measure requiring Transposition into Irish Law , which allows for the subsidiary protection of people regected by definition of refugee status but in danger of suffering serious harm if returned forcibly to their country of origin.

According to Press releases from the Department of Justice, the directive for subsidiary protection in the case of failure of application for refugee status, an applicant can apply for protection under the new directive, it is however, not retrospective.
