As readers of indymedia.ie are aware, I was released from Limerick Prison on Friday, 9th January, having served about 45 days of a 60-day sentence arising from my participation in an anti-war mass trespass at Shannon airport in October 2002. Readers will be happy to know that I left the prison without paying one cent of the E750 fine imposed by the state and, consequently, am in very good spirits. read full story / add a comment

Anti-war activist Eoin Rice was arrested today (Saturday 17th January) peacefully protesting on Shop Street, Galway, during the EU delegate's 'walkabout' after Friday's EU meeting. Eoin was subsequently beaten in police custody - with an injury to the back of his head and multiple bruising over his body. This caused by being shoved against a wall and hit with batons.
He was then taken in police custody to hospital, where he had a head X-Ray.
He has been released and is giving a press conference outside Mill Street Garda Station at 3.30 today.
Complaints have been lodged. read full story / add a comment

The Anti Racism Rally

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has now officially endorsed the lunchtime rally at Belfast city hall to be held @ 1pm Jan 27th. They will be contacting all their affiliates asking them to support it. Also the Belfast Lord Mayor has also endorsed the rally and has confirmed that he can also speak at it. We are starting to get similar feed back from other organisations. The rally is being called as a visual and collective stand against the continued brutal attacks on the minority ethnic community. Arson attacks on homes, attacks on heavily pregnant women and yet more attacks on children and on men. It is time that the collective voice of working class communities with the trade union movement and the minority ethnic organisations came together in a united stand.

With that - we urge all to spread the word and to attend this rally. read full story / add a comment
