This was a declaration posted to the papers of the world in 1992. Most papers ignored it then and still do. Most Governments have ignored it. The IRISH government have certainly ignored it. Let's fight against Nice, for women's equality, for an end to war, racism and corruption and let's not forget that the earth is being MURDERED (not killed but murdered) as we talk, meet and make plans. Corporations and governments are surely complicit and largely to blame. But so are we. We are 'the west', we are the rampant consumers. How many of us eat meat, recycle, cut down on oil and gas, use less paper - all basic but difficult stuff - but all very relevant. EARTH GET SICK - WE GET SICK. EARTH DIES, WE DIE. read full story / add a comment

IRELAND SHOUT OUT! INDYMEDIA SHOUT OUT! ***NOW**, not later!!!!!!!! We have rocked the world before. We shook an empire to it's foundations, and this time we're going to break one before it fully get's going. Say no to a corporate Europe, a European Army, the rotten lies and corruption of Bertie and Brussels. Say YES! to honest debate and a fair run race where the Irish people can have a look at what potent poison they're been made swallow. read full story / add a comment

The Government’s declaration at the Seville summit in June has it that “Nor is Ireland party to any plans to develop a European Army”. EU Commission President Romano Prodi said it well “If you don’t want to call it a European army, don’t call it a European army. You can call it ‘Margaret’, you can call it ‘Mary-Anne’, you can find any name”. read full story / add a comment

There are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world, and Islam is the world's fastest-growing religion. If the evil carnage we witnessed on Sept. 11 were typical of the faith, and Islam truly inspired and justified such violence, its growth and the increasing presence of Muslims in both Europe and the U.S. would be a terrifying prospect. Fortunately, this is not the case. read full story / add a comment

In the early hours of Saturday 1st
September activists occupied the archaeological site of Carrickmines Castle in a non-violent direct action that could rival the Glen of the Downs protest. The excavation of the site, which is still incomplete, was wound up on Friday evening to make way for its destruction for the completion of the M50 motorway.

A UCD professor has discovered that the Government has been lying all along about the extent of the funds to be cut from Ireland's overseas aid budget. The Fianna Fail-Progressive Democrats cabal official line is that planned expenditure on aid will be reduced by €32m this year, but the true figure is €8 to €10m higher. This flies in the face of the Government's commitment to give 0.7% of GNP in aid to developing countries within five years... read full story / add a comment |
