The Blanket update includes, Davy Carlin on NIPSA Dispute, Mackers on Scargill, Mc Cann on Pat Finucane case , O Comain on Ulster Britishness, and Laim O Ruairc, on Waste. That meeting on Scargill was very well attended and I believe Mackers gives a fair report of it although he has a dig at the SWP. Worth a read, as are the other items, I also think that the satire and pictures are getting better over time, but thats just my opinion. Keep it up! read full story / add a comment

interesting article in the weekly worker on homophobia by oppressed people and what the lefts attitutde is and should be. Criticising the oppressed The gay rights group, Outrage, is renowned for its headline-making campaigns against homophobia - of, for example, the Church of England, Robert Mugabe and elements of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. This led to a fierce denunciation by the SWP’s Lindsey German and a heated exchange on BBC2’s Newsnight. Most recently Outrage has highlighted the murderous lyrics of certain Jamaican reggae artists. But is it right to criticise the oppressed? Peter Tatchell, Outrage’s leading activist, explains his approach http://www.cpgb.org.uk/worker/544/tatchell.htm read full story / add a comment

Last June, during the voting on the referendum on citizenship, an exit poll of 3.300 voters which had been commissioned by RTE Radio, found that 36% of yes voters at 166 polling stations agreed that the main reason for their vote was because 'the country is being exploited by immigrants.' Another 27% had agreed with the statement that 'there are too many immigrants in the country.' It may surprise some of those voters who believe that immigrants (the bulk of whom are here on approved work permits) are costing us lots of money, that we are still receiving large transfers from the European Union. read full story / add a comment

Twenty two years after the massacre of hundreds of Palestinian refugees in the Camps at Sabra and Shatila and the then Israeli defence minister Ariel Sharon now presides over the continuing reign of terror as Israeli Prime minister.
