There are plenty of groups and individuals in the anti-war movement who are opposed to direct action as a general principle. They think protests should always stay within the law, and aim to change the minds of government ministers through sheer numbers. Fair enough, that's their position. But what about the other groups, that say they do favour direct action? read full story / add a comment

There is a threat of war and the deaths of innocent people. Some believe that tearing down the fence on Saturday will do more than a mass movement - that is their right to believe that. Personally I believe that it has been spelt out enough for people to know that violence is not part of the plan and I really do hope it works. However, knowing that there will be a massive security presence there, can anyone supply an update for what is going to happen if people cannot get near the fence. As it stands the plan seems very well organised but doesn't mention the possibility of there being a line of gardai before the fence. read full story / add a comment

The Institute for Policy Studies has published a report analyzing the relationship between the US and the nations of the Security Council and those in Bush's non-UN coalition. They examine for each country economic, political and military leverage. They conclude that it is not a 'coalition of the willing'. They find evidence of coercion, of bullying and bribery. And all of these govts. are opposed to their own people. These bribed nations represent barely a tenth of the worlds population. Far more impressive are those nations that have stood up to the US bully tactics. read full story / add a comment

Grim times indeed. The papers and TV are full of bad news, suffering and reports of poverty, war, terrorism and pollution. It would make you want to tune out or get out (of your head). Still, I have tried these options and they don’t work. - Ignorance ain’t bliss. read full story / add a comment

The two linked articles taken together suggest that rather than completely giving up on mainstream media we should make it hard for them to tell half-truths. One is written by the organizer of MediaLens about a success story in this regard and the other is about the "Press the Press" campaign which aims to force mainstream media to address anti-establishment views read full story / add a comment

Blair and Ahearn Will be in Hillsborough County Down Northern Ireland on Monday 3rd March. How to get there. From the north follow the M1 to Sprucefield then follow the A1 Hillsborough First on the Left, from the South follow the signs for Belfast, Hillsborough 11 miles from Belfast on your right. Last time the cowards used the side entrance to avoid protest, If we mobilise a lager protest crowd I would suggest hold pickets at the two main entrances to Hillsborough on the A1 that way the only way in is by a small back road which means they have to use the main entrance to Hillsborough, or fly in be Helicopter. Never mind Shannon come and tell Bush’s Poodle to his Face DON’T ATTACK IRAQ. NOT IN MY NAME read full story / add a comment

On Democracy Now! today Robt. Fisk said that Bush and Blair were small, pathetic strutting men, who had no experience of war. War is not about defeat or victory but about death, he said. On the same programme, Chris Hedges, New York Times, said that war is death, and that flagwaving and patriotism was necrophilia. He said the Press was using jingles and cliches from the Govt. 'Shock and Awe'was a euphemism for mass murder of civilians. Fisk said that Bush's speech was a lie because there could not be a viable Palestinian state, because of the extent of Israeli settlements. He said that Bush was in the process of destroying the U.N. read full story / add a comment
