One morning my mother was in the basement feeding wet-washed clothes into the ringer when she paused to rest for a moment. With the ringer off she suddenly realised the house was quiet - unusually quiet. She took a careful look around and thoughtfully headed for the stairs. It was equally quiet in the kitchen. She moved more quickly now as she headed upstairs. The bedromms were empty but before climbing to the attic, she noticed the bathroom door was fully shut. Approaching, she thought she heard a noise. Trying the knob she found it locked. read full story / add a comment

Workers in the wake of Katrina are trying to self organize and fight back. Some of us activists here in the US are trying to help them both by going there and also by sending financial and other aid. Our aim is to help the workers self organize as opposed to being pushed around by the government and its many agencies. Arising out of this self organizing comes increased consciousness about our own power and this can lead to increased consciousness and struggle in all other areas of all of our lives.

Tuesday saw the continuation of Ciaron's testimony, and Damien Moran took the stand, to not only explain what he did and why, but at the request of the prosecutor, young Damo demonstrated the correct way to hold and use a hammer!
On Wednesday, 4 witnesses were in the stand. First, a retired RAF group captain gave expert testimony as to the effect that disrupting military supply lines has on a war effort. Then Jimmy Massey told the court about his time in Kuwait and Iraq as a US Marine Staff Sgt around the time of the action.
Karen Fallon spent 50 minutes in the stand telling it like it is, and Deirdre Clancy commenced her testimony, which continues tomorrow. Report based on our notes. read full story / add a comment

The position as I understand it of the Shellto Sea (from reading newspaper, listening to radio, watching television and following the debate on this website) is that they want NO gaspipe line or refinary to be constructed.
That position appears uncompromising. read full story / add a comment
