national / eu / press release Friday June 13, 2008 19:05 by No! 2 Lisbon 2 comments (last - saturday june 14, 2008 15:50)
It has indeed been a Friday the 13th the yes campaigners would rather forget. A resounding No! 2 Lisbon was the result, with a comfortable 110,000 votes ahead and a margin of 53.4% to 46.6%. A considerable achievement considering the profile of those calling on support for the Lisbon Treaty. Sinn Féin was the only major party to call for a No! vote. Sinn Féin and their youth wing Ógra Shinn Féin have continuously said that a better deal could be negotiated for Ireland in Europe, and as a result have campaigned and canvassed for a no vote. read full story / add a comment
international / eu / press release Friday June 13, 2008 16:09 by O. O'C.
Foreign Minister Michael Martin and other Irish Euro-federalists are already planning to subvert the Lisbon Treaty referendum result by urging the other EU States to continue with their ratification process instead of telling them that Ireland cannot ratify the Lisbon Treaty as it stands, and that further ratifications elsewhere are therefore pointless, and the Treaty must be reopened. read full story / add a comment

James Turley, CPGB, writes on how the warmongers have stepped up their threats towards Iran. He says only principled opposition to both US/UK/Israeli Imperialism and to the Iranian Regime will win over mass support to the anti war movement. Full text at link. Communists unequivocally oppose any imperialist action against Iran. It is clear to all that the invasion of Iraq has been a catastrophe for the Iraqi people, no matter what US and British propaganda says. It is also clear that this catastrophe has real roots in the objective dynamics of recent capitalist development and the relative decline of US global hegemony in the face competition from China and Europe - and so any subsequent adventure in Iran is likely to have similar results. read full story / add a comment

The rejection of the Lisbon Treaty by the Irish electorate has not only told politicians, in what now appears to be a unified one party state made up of Labour, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, that the Irish people will not tolerate any interference to our Constitution by unknown bureaucrats in the EU. read full story / add a comment
international / eu / press release Friday June 13, 2008 13:18 by Campaign Against EU Constitution 3 comments (last - saturday june 14, 2008 22:44)
The Irish people have spoken. Contrary to the predictions of social and political turmoil, we believe that hundreds of millions of people across Europe will welcome the rejection of the Lisbon Treaty. The proposals to further reduce democracy, to militarise the EU and to let private business take over public services have been rejected. Lisbon is dead. Along with the EU Constitution from which it came, it should now be buried. read full story / add a comment

in Dublin city centre particularly in the last few days. people aren't just saying they're voting No they're vehemently No and they're saying we could win this ...A lot of people have stopped by the CAEUC stall at the GPO to chat and debate, farmers, fishermen, taxi drivers, disgruntled fiannna failers etc. etc. really varied. it's amazing to hear people talking about politics like this, not just the treaty but the EU and where it's going. it feels like people are really getting into this. read full story / add a comment
