Faoi dheireadh tá Gaeilge ina teanga oifigiúil den Aontas Eorpach, ach is scannal é nár tharla seo 30 bliain ó shin nuair a chuaigh muid isteach san AE ar dtús. Measaim gur seo seans deireanach don Ghaeilge teacht slán. Is trua é seo mar tríd is tríd táim i gcoinne an Aontais Eorpach. I mo thuairim, tá an eagraíocht ann go príomha chun an bóthar a réiteach do ghnóthaí móra. read full story / add a comment

Elections tend to bring out the worst in leftists. Either they get completely caught up in them, insisting that the result of this election is crucial to the future prospects of world revolution, or else they insist that even sneaking a glance at an election poster is an abject surrender to the oppressive state apparatus. read full story / add a comment

The Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, has managed to gain some international attention after his hysterical attack on presidential candidate, Barack Obama. The seasoned Australian politician knowingly stated that a victory for Obama OR the Democrats would be a victory for al-Qaeda, “I mean, if I we're running al-Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008 and pray as many times as possible for a victory not only for Obama but also for the Democrats”. read full story / add a comment

How was Ireland, and Galway indeed, affected by the Spanish Civil War that was raging 70 years ago? This is one of the questions that will be addressed by Bob Doyle, the last surviving Irishman to have fought for the Spanish Republic, and Harry Owens, the co-author of Bob’s biography 'Brigadista', at two meetings in Galway on Thursday 15 February. The first meeting will be held in NUI Galway at 6.15 pm under the auspices of People Before Profit, while the Galway Labour History Group will host a similar event at 7.30 pm in the Galway city library, Augustine St. read full story / add a comment |
