An Israeli army spokesman said 12 unarmed Palestinian civilians were killed during the course of Operation Rainbow, including seven killed by a tank shell during a demonstration in the Tel Sultan neighborhood last Wednesday.

"We did not use the tank shell in order to disperse the demonstration but rather to create a boom effect," Zakai said. "To the best of my professional judgement, the tank commander's decision was correct." read full story / add a comment

The social and political turmoil that has rocked Venezuela since the election of the radical left-populist former army officer, Hugo Chávez, as President, in 1999, has now entered a new and critical phase. Chávez has now called for the arming of the population and the setting up of a "people’s militia". He has also directly attacked capitalism for the first time and declared that the "Bolivarian revolution has entered a new anti-imperialist phase". read full story / add a comment

The privacy issue is being used as a smoke screen to deflect the debate from the most important issue; that being a party’s obligation to represent the views of those who elect it. Private schooling is in conflict with core socialist beliefs, and this makes Pat Rabbitte’s position untenable. read full story / add a comment

An Irish Times opinion poll (published on Monday May 24) on the citizenship referendum is good news for the Government – it shows a majority of more than two to one (54% versus 24%, 22% undecided) – in favour of the amendment drafted by Minister for Justice Michael McDowell. The poll was conducted as the “Chen Case” hit the headlines.

Were the people who participated in last week’s opinion poll influenced by the mainstream media coverage? That seems likely. read full story / add a comment

On the 27th April gardia entered a house on leeson street and arrested 1 man in the building and two others in the street, i'm sure you heard about this at the time, though now since speaking to those in ireland, there seems to be a lack of interest in the case.
I was one of those arrested and subsquently had to spend a week in cloverhill remand prison, our case is back up in november, and the two others who have been forced to stay in dublin until then...
if there are any witnesses to the arrests or any information that can be given from those who were in the building at the time shortly before could they get in contact with me at [email protected] or joe and polly that'd be great...
im also up in court on september 22nd in cloverhill if any1 wants to come down in solidarity that'd be amazing...

The human race has moved into the digital age. After centuries of hardship and toil now is presumably the time when the information revolution bears fruition. This so called information revolution refers to the rapid in increase in use of automated technology in modern global society, e.g. ATM machines, mobile phones, satellite technology, smart cards and the Internet. The ideology of the Global Information Infrastructure (GII) centres on the freedom of information for all. The ease of availability of information about other cultures, about government activities and about important news would, it was hoped, lead to greater understanding among cultures. read full story / add a comment
